Gladys Knight Is My Hero!

Larry the Legend Loc: Not hiding in Milton

She's one of the most famous singers of all time, and she's taking the stage tomorrow to do it yet again. Some people are less than pleased that she has decided to pay this respect to our (and her) national anthem. She doesn't much pay them any attention:

“I am here today and on Sunday, Feb. 3 to give the Anthem back its voice,”

She goes on to put the poor, downtrodden, protesting millionaires in their place:

“I have been in the forefront of this battle longer than most of those voicing their opinions to win the right to sing our country’s Anthem on a stage as large as the Super Bowl LIII,” she added. “No matter who chooses to deflect with this narrative and continue to mix these two in the same message, it is not so and cannot be made so by anyone speaking it.”

You go girl!

“It is unfortunate that our National Anthem has been dragged into this debate when the distinctive senses of the National Anthem and fighting for justice should each stand alone.”

Yes, it is.

Bravo! I agree whole heartedly with you . . . Gladys is an American icon, and being African-American, I am so happy that she decided to weigh in on this. She is one glassy lady! So glad she is on the side of all true Americans. Our National Anthem should NEVER be dragged into the arena regarding protests over ANYTHING!

She is #2 on my all time favorite female singers. #1 is the incomparable Mahalia. I liked Aretha but somehow I always liked Gladys better.

Mahalia Jackson, "The Queen of Gospel".

"Well, now then Mardy Bum
I've seen your frown
And it's like looking down the barrel of a gun
And it goes off
And out come all these words
Oh there's a very pleasant side to you
A side I much prefer"

She was only 61 at her death. For shame!

Since we're on the topic of beautiful female voices, ever listened to the track on Dark Side of the Moon, 'Eclipse'? Now there's a beautiful voice. Then there's Whitney Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's 'I will Always Love You'. She sang it better than Dolly!
