In a column from The American Thinker, conservative author Rovvy Lepor reveals that Congress has over one trillion dollars sitting in what he calls “unobligated balances.”

Lepor cites a former GOP lawmaker in his piece, who stated that the “unobligated balances” would give Trump the ability to very easily build the entire wall along the southern border between the United States and Mexico.

Here’s more from his column:

While President Trump is correct to remain committed to building a border barrier and has asked all Cabinet agencies for wall funding, he can fund the entire barrier without having to declare a national emergency.

Instead, he can draw full funding for a complete border barrier from unobligated balances. Unobligated balances “are the amounts of budget authority that have not yet been committed by contract or other legally binding action by the government.”

Former senator Tom Coburn described unobligated balances as “essentially money for nothing.” While in 2012 there was an estimated $687 billion in unobligated balances, unobligated balances in federal and trust funds in FY 2019 is estimated to be a whopping $1,156,136,000,000.

In a recent article, Scot Faulkner advises that President Trump should mine the available funds from unobligated balances to fund the border wall. ...

So the idiot Pumpkinfuhrer and his collection of “best people” had the money all along and shut down the government for nothing? What an incompetent buffoon. Let him declare his fake state of emergency, but keep in mind it will set precedent for the next president to declare a similar state of emergency to fight climate change or combat gun violence.

The money was hidden from the Republicans and only now been revealed. Apparently it was a Dim-O-Crat slush fund Obama set up.

I am only relying on my memory:

But I seem to recall the issue of this money was brought up not to long ago.
At the time it was pointed out as not quite what it seem to be.

I am sure that there may well be some one else remembers it also.

Well there is google>

I would not say it has been hidden.
The fund has been in place for some time.
There has been mention of this on this site in the past.

The statement was that Obama did not use that fund.
I found no information as to when & who set the fund up.
It may be a normal part of the US Treasury.

It don't think that the President has direct access to the money.
It may have to go through the House of Congress.

It is an issue that should be looked in to further.

I would go a little slow in calling it a winner.
As I recall it was brought up on this site not to long ago.

It seemed it was not quite what it looked to be.

That issue has been looked into.

The money was Iran's money that was held back when sanctions were enacted against Iran.

Exactly. And Obama gave it back, knowing all too well it would find terrorists. Freaking stupid.
