Luke chapter 6

Verse 1

The disciples weren’t working. They were eating because they were hungry. The Pharisees had no compassion. They used scripture to point fingers, and not to build, uplift, and encourage. What was translated “ears of corn” should have been “kernels of wheat”.

Verse 2 – 5

The incident Jesus is talking about is in 1 Samuel 21. God hallowed the showbread in Leviticus 24:9. God gave us the Sabbath for our good. The Sanhedrin used it to oppress and point fingers and accuse.

Verse 6 & 7

The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. The Pharisees didn’t understand the Torah, yet they used God’s word to make a name for themselves. Jesus sees they don’t understand the word of God. He is going to go where they are

Verse 8 – 11

God and Jesus can read your mind. We will be judged by our works. Actions have consequences. We should think before we speak or act. Once we say something, it can’t be unsaid. Once we do something, it can’t be undone. We should act to produce the best result. No one profits from evil. We should consider whether the actions we will do are good or evil. The Sanhedrin thought they understood the word of God better than the Son of God. Their understanding will lead them to kill Christ. Christ says His disciples should take up their cross and follow Him.

Verse 12

Jesus prayed all night before He selected His disciples.

Verse 13 – 16

There is a difference in the names of the disciples in Matthew and Mark and the ones in Luke, Acts, and John. Matthew and Mark list Thaddaeus, Luke and Acts list another Judas, who is the brother of James. John 14:22 mentions Judas, but points out that his last name is not Iscariot. Why the difference? The names of the disciples don’t matter. We should all be Disciples of Christ. Satan has deceived the whole world. If you teach truth, there will be fightings within and fears without.

Verse 17 – 19

Jesus and the disciples improved the lives of everyone. They were killed and persecuted by the people they helped.

Verse 20

Disciples should endure persecution now, and look to be raised when Christ returns. We endure trials and tribulations now, God will lift us up. This whole nation is deceived. We legalize the murder of infants and same sex marriage. The blood of 60 million babies is on this country’s hands. Yet, we go to church and lift these blood stained hands and pray for God to bless us.

Verse 21 - 23

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. The ones Jesus says will be blessed we don’t think are blessed, the hungry, those that weep. We expect what we read in the bible to agree with the nonsense taught by false prophets. In Isaiah 25:8, Revelation 7:17 & 21:4, God says He will wipe tears. If God says He will wipe tears then tears should be there. It is difficult to celebrate being hated. Have faith in God’s word. Things will work out in your favor. Read Romans 8:28.

Verse 24 – 26

Whenever a scripture starts with “woe”, pain is coming to whoever the woe applies to. But if it don’t apply, let it fly. Blessings and woes are found in verses 20 – 27.

Verse 27 – 31

A person who disagrees with everything you say, and disapproves of everything you do, will not borrow money from you. God causes it to rain on the just and unjust. Nobody wins a fight. The people in our lives are constantly changing. A person that slaps you is really trying to show the crowd how tough he is. Nobody cares how tough anybody is. It is just stuff. If you want to fight dirty, let God fight your battles. He can have you see what ain’t there, believe what ain’t true, not see what is there, and doubt what makes sense. Our minds ability to perceive is in the hands of the supernatural. Treat others like you want to be treated. Do you want your mate to cheat on you? Don’t cheat on them. Do you want to be robbed? Don’t rob anybody else. Read Isaiah 33:1.

Verse 32 – 38

Christianity should not make you point fingers. It should make you a joy to be around. There should be a difference between Christians and the rest of the world. If you want to be forgiven, you must forgive others.

Verse 39 & 40

The saddest thing about this situation is knowing the follower has no way of knowing the leader is blind also until disaster happens. Christ was crucified. How dare we expect an easy life.

Verse 41 – 45

We should bring out three points; 1) If something is in your eye, you know it before anyone else. 2) A beam is bigger than your head and will not fit in your eye. This leads to the third point. 3) It is a bigger sin to point fingers, than anything we think someone else has done. Everyone is known by what they do. Being good or evil is a choice.

Verse 46

A famous ministry is known for ending the show saying Jesus is Lord. While ignoring every sermon Jesus preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed.

Verse 47 – 49

Both go through the same things. The difference maker is doing what Christ said.
