How's The Weather

The season has changed somewhat dramatically in Texas.

I just wrapped up a seven day project in College Station and this morning I'll leave here for home.

My next project begins next month, in New Orleans, so I'm off duty and I'm about to get lost for awhile.

On my way, I'm gonna take a detour as I leave College Station so that I can take another drive down "Bird Pond Road".

Sometimes folks, we should do things in the moment of the window of opportunity.

Especially those things that enrich ones spirit and adds to life experience.

Because you never know if you'll ever have a chance to do it again.

"Bird Pond Road" has no majestic views or panoramic scenery.

It's just a stretch of road that caused me to feel the pleasant instance of peace of mind, as I drove it.

When I arrived here Monday of last week, there were sunny skies with cotton puff clouds as I meandered down that little road inspecting and marking our survey sites.

Every tree, bush, weed, plant, crop, critter, pond and blade of grass was busy piping their instruments in a spectacular symphony of a warm and wonderful day in America.

Forgotten was the incessant blather taking place in the world of politics and social interaction.

Gone was any feeling of anger and my usual mean spirited demeanor.

So I think I need another dose of that medicine.

But today will be quite a difference.

There are no sunny skies because a Blue Norther has blown in and it brought dark clouds and a brisk wind with a sharp bite to it.

It's even dropping sleet and snow just west of here.

I talked to my wife earlier and she promised a good meal and a warm hearth when I get home.

It's about three hours to home from here.

Add thirty minutes for a slow cruise down "Bird Pond Road".

By the way pilgrims, how's the weather where you are.

It is cold (slightly above freezing) windy and raining hard right now. Not pleasant, think I will stay in and clean house. We have had two sets of guests this last week, one set long term friends, and the other set people we didn't know. The friends that we just met had a car accident about a mile from us, and could find no place to stay, two adults and one teen age boy, who fell in love with the dogs, and spend time next door learning how to milk goats. We have fun with people we just meet, because the dogs decide which ones are welcome and the two Mastiffs are great judges of character. The only drawback is that I have to get another turkey, because we had an early Thanksgiving with these new friends and ate a lot of turkey. They got the car fixed, stayed 4 days and then went home. Try this approach sometime, it is amazing what nice people are out there, and you would never meet otherwise.

Well Mr. Counselor, it's cold! It started blowing through here Sunday night, and dumped various amounts of snow all across the Panhandle, and Oklahoma.
Thankfully, all of our drivers made it out, and back in one piece with no damaged vehicles, so it's a win.
It was 15 this morning, and I was out in it for about 4 hours. Thankfully, no wind, so it wasn't too bad since I was dressed properly.
It's now sunny, and cold. Not sure what the current temp is, but it's supposed to get up to a screaming 40 degrees later. That'll finish clearing the roads bringing an end to the kick-off to the annual Texas Panhandle bumper cars season. Round one is over, and hopefully, the body shops can get caught up before round two.
Enjoy your drive sir!

Somehow I managed to erase my comment on the weather, so am trying to post it again. Guess these old shaky arthritic hands are causing me more trouble that usual
It poured for most of the last two days, and then got down below freezing and the roads became sheet ice so we decided to stay put.We had two groups of guests over the last week, one set planned on and very welcome, and we had a great and not along enough visit before they had to go back home to Indiana. Then came the unexpected guests. A couple and their thirteen year old daughter had a car accident about a mile from our house. No serious injuries to anyone, just a few cuts and scrapes. The car was not driveable so a neighbor towed it to the repair shop 15 miles away and drove them to pick it up when it was ready 4 days later. In the meantime they stayed with us and we all had a great time. The dogs delighted them, showing off their tricks and obedience skills, except for the puppy who won them over with his charm, not his manners. They went next door and visited the goats, and learned how to milk a goat, a new skill for city people. They were also fascinated by David's drawings, we have photos, LindaJoy has the originals and has posted them Pete came over to show us his reports for school and to work on training the puppy. Really he just wanted to meet the daughter but did not want to admit that (he is still really shy) and David came over to find out about turkeys so he could draw the table favors for Thanksgiving.
Now everyone has left, and there are piles of dishes in the kitchen so I guess we better get busy and get them done. the one time I wish we had a dishwasher, but , as SWMBO says that is my job.

Chattanooga Tennessee.....Don't look, Ethyl, it's a redneck! LOL

Cha has a temperature inversion table, meaning our warm air frequently stays near the ground while the cold air gets trapped on top. Because of this, we don't get a lot of snow. And we are a humid region, making summer hotter and winter colder.
The leaves are starting to turn. They won't be so magnificent this year but that's just nature. We are getting a lot of rain right now.
I do armed security and at one of my posts, I get off at 3AM. I sometimes take a city street home...Main St. In Chattanooga, it is the 15th street. One of the citiy's oldest. Over the years it has lost it's meaning, but recently, it is coming back with a bang.
Anyway, at that early hour, it's pleasant to me to just drive slowly and reflect what Main St. must have been like in, say, the 1940's. I always sigh when I pull in our driveway 'cause I'm home. I like old places and things.
Putting politics aside, as we should, God bless all, and I hope you all can find that peaceful place where the soul gets a little rest!

I just got back from seeing my younger daughter in college in South Dakota. It was 2 degrees wind chill over the weekend and isn’t a lot warmer here in my neck of Illinois. I’m looking a snowfall in the face for tonight but Friday is opening day of deer season and the temps look favorable. It will be peaceful out in the woods as I contemplate Gods bounty and wait for a fat doe to wander by.

I love your Illinois slogan. For the years we lived there, that sounds like the correct slogan.
