Your ignorance is not appreciated not all atheists are pot-smoking idiots. Thomas Edison, for example, is an Atheist.

The point i'm trying to make is that we are not all ignorant stoners , and as for Edison he was born in 1847 four years after marijuana was cultivated for smoking prior to that it was used as an herbal medicine. So yes he could smoke if he wanted to. I do not condone marijuana as i have seen it ruin many of my friends' lives.

Hey SB, who were the first to start smoking pot? It's been in the pharmacopoeia for - well - since there was a pharmacopoeia. My impression is that natives in Central/South America were smoking various herbs when Columbus arrived. Didn't the early Spanish explorers bring the tobacco habit back to Europe?

I'm not a historian, but i'm fairly certain that tobacco and other herbs where smoked by Central Americans that the Spanish did bring it back to Europe. What does that matter anyway?

if a doctor just told you, your heart is so weak, you have only a few days to live. What will you be thinking? Will you reconsider your beliefs in God? Will you finally repent and ask God to forgive you? Or will you be filled, with your pride and just lay there and die? Will you just lay there, with a chance you might be wrong? How many of you on here will give an honest answer, I also wonder. I don't think there is really any such thing as an Atheist. I think a better name for them would be: Refusal's of Christ and His gifts.

People can believe whatever they wish to believe. I personally don't understand how a person can look at a sun set or into the face of a new born and not believe there is a higher power.

When I walk through the forest near my house and look at the wonder of nature, I know in my heart this was no accident. I believe in God but I wonder if repenting at this last moment would be acceptable. You have had your whole life to become the person your God wanted you to be.

As long as you have breath, you can be saved. Remember the thief on the cross. Both thieves were railing against Christ before He died, but one came to his senses and asked Him to remember him.. Christ said, today you shall be with me in paradise.

Well you're right, SB, it's more than a little off topic. Maybe you'll appreciate this though:

The foundation of religion is the fear of the many and the cleverness of the few.

One of my favorites . . .

Most 12-Step meetings end with the group reciting the Our Father together. A New York group had a really outspoken atheist in it who always included himself in the circle at the end. One of the members asked him why he did this and he replied, "Well, that's just in case I turn out to be wrong."

One of my favorites.

Another one is by one of the founders of the 12-step movement. "I'd rather live my life believing there is a God and die & find out I'm wrong than to live believing there isn't a God and die & find out I was wrong."

Yep, heard that one too dennis, and was appropriately amused. For myself, I lose no respect for a person with deep religious beliefs. What I find destructive, disturbing and repulsive is the seemingly irresistible impulse of so many to insist others behave in accordance with their religious beliefs.

Believe whatever you choose, but please, PLEASE -

1. Don't indoctrinate your children by presenting your religious
beliefs as fact.

2. Don't vote for any politician for any office who intends to
incorporate religious belief into law.

Wholesale application of these two simple rules would result in a much more pleasant world in just a few generations!

Sign me up for that! For myself, I absolutely believe that there is someone/thing there. Not claiming to be able to explain it, I think that's why they call it, "faith." I've had a couple of what are sometimes referred to as, "woo woo," experiences that say I'm here on purpose, for a reason and that it continues on, as it has always been, forever. That having been said, I do NOT believe that there is any religion that has gotten it right, yet. They all seem to need to take something which is incredibly simple and profound and express it in human terms which totally loses it all in the translation. Take care for now,

Great post, Neal! I don't have a problem with people having deep religious beliefs, but as you pointed out it becomes a problem when they try to force them on you. And unfortunately you see a lot of those people on this forum.

I totally agree there are some on here who want everyone to believe exactly as they do, but MOST, in my view, simply want others to accept the morality that good religions teach. What is shot in this country are the moral principles our country was once known for. Morality does not rely on religion, but without religion being present, I think morality collapses. Some practice, but there are too many excuses to abandon it. When a nation's morality fails, so does the nation.

In a situation such as that, a person being aware of their upcoming demise, all they need to hear at that point is the Love for them in Jesus Christ. A non-believers death is exceptionally frightening and why they linger on and on in the death mode.

21 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 2.

10 "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." 2 Corinthians 5.
(the meaning of 'every knee shall bend...' )
