My daughter called this morning and they are having a fish fry tomorrow night. She asked me to bring home made baked beans. We will have a typical shore lunch menu of fried potatoes, baked beans, and fried walleye wonderful dinner.

In northern Minnesota and Canada that is referred to as a shore lunch. It is usually cooked up by the guide on the shore and a number of walleyes are filleted and fried along with the fried potatoes and beans usually made the night before. The lunch is very filling but We usually had ours in the evening. I was staying with my aunt and uncle at the time in northern Minnesota. We sometimes had trout with the walleye and they were really tasty as well. The name of the town was Grand Marais Minnesota. Maybe they will let you bring a steak along for sore lunch.

It would be a very "sore lunch" for you because everyone would want your steak.
There was one lake that we fished up there that was really clear and you could see the bass (smallmouth) swimming quite deep. We were using nightcrawlers and all you had to do was drop it down until it hit bottom and then real it up a couple of turns and watch one of the bass grab that worm and take off. As soon as you felt the bass on the line set the hook and real him in.

Do the guides still use pure lard like they once did? No substitute is as good.
