Actually, Hollywood was searching for a Rock and Roll icon at the time of the discovery of Elvis, But believe it or not, Hollywood and the Music Industry first tried to turn Marlon Brando into this New Sensation that would become Elvis Presley.

There's a sub-race of humans living in the Appalachians (I can't remember the exact name of them-starts with an M) of which Elvis was a member. Abe Lincoln was another. Some think they are descendants of Native Americans and pre Columbus Norsemen who wandered through. Who knows. Now, on a personal note, I happened to wind up in the same basic training company where the U.S. Army trained Elvis, only quite a few years later. It's said that E. would collect his pay and then he'd stand on the stoop to his barracks and toss all his cash up in the air. Whoever caught it could keep it. Ain't that something?
