Who are you gonna call?

Might as well be ghost busters, for all the good it'll do. I talk to a great many people who are fed up with our Government. They're fed up with both democrats and republicans. When I ask them how they'll vote, they answer " I guess the same as always", then I ask, "well, then aren't you just perpetuating the very thing you don't like?". Now it gets worse. Most of these people tell me that there are no candidates they have confidence in, so they vote " the lesser of two evils".

When asked, they have a vague recollection of there being other political parties, but don't know anything about them. " well, if you're fed up with the big two, why not look for alternatives?" I ask, the answer is usually that they don't have time, or some other nonsense. When really pressed, they admit that it doesn't matter that much to them, hence, the lack of any research or thought.

Here are the top excuses;
1. I can't make a difference
2. One vote doesn't matter
3. It's out of my hands
4. they're going to do what they want anyway
5. I don't have good choices

These folk text each other 24/7, but don't have time to e-mail their Senator. They spend more time on the internet than they do sleeping, but don't have the time to research other parties, or any other options. They have time to complain, but no time to try and be part of a solution. Nearly everyone I have ever talked to said that there had to be a better way to Govern, but only a few of them have ever given it anymore thought than that. They keep on voting the way they always have, because that's the way they were raised, or that's what they learned in college, or some other ridiculous excuse.

So we're going to keep on doing what we've always done and when we don't like it, who are we going to call? We'll bob back and forth between the democrats and the republicans, just like we always do, and complain that things aren't getting any better, so who do we call to stop the stupidity roller coaster? We'll keep voting for the lesser of two evils and whine when things stay screwed up and wonder who's going to save us. The whole time, the answer was staring us in the face, every time we looked in the mirror. STOP doing the same thing we've always done - and the results MUST be different. Will it be better? We won't know until we try it, but we KNOW what will happen if we don't. That's what I tell those folks who are fed up. Do something completely different, take the risk, otherwise, just shut up if you don't like the results - you made it happen.

Outstanding. Perhaps you will have better luck than me as a member of the "Preaching to the Fenceposts Society." MIght I also add that sometimes the only way to get a voice of change elected is for them to run as a member of the Demopub Club? I would describe my Congressman, based on his votes, as pretty much of a Libertarian, yet he had to run as a Republicrat to get elected. The main thing is to get these different people in there, regardless of what sort of window dressing it takes. Just me talkin'. One thing, if you don't want business as usual, you can't have politicians as usual.

The big problem is not so much the voters as the electors. By that I mean the ones behind the people running. We can't vote for the good people if they are not running. Sure we get a few that start, but they get dumped by the way side before it comes time to vote in the final vote. Take President for instance, we start out with 10 running and wind up with two. We only have a choice in those two because everyone else has been dumped by the people running things. Same thing goes for Congress. We don't get much of a choice with them either. We can't vote for someone that is not running. Sure a few of them get in, but very few and they don't have much say in what it going on.

You have the smear machine working over time for people that may make a difference, so how can we vote for them when they drop out of the race due to lack of support? Even of we get a good person in as President, how can they change things much when they have Congress working against them? Even if you get a good one in, by the time you get enough of Congress replaced, he is gone and then you are right back were you started. The only way to really stop this is to replace the entire government in one feel swoop and that would take a civil war to accomplish and there is not enough people willing to do that yet.

With all those foreign troops stationed here and our own lack of support form our military, how are you going to do anything. We would be fighting half the world if we started a civil war now and that doesn't even include the different police departments we would have to fight. No, I think the deck is stacked against any civil war and we are just along for the ride.

Your point is very well taken, lpn major. You're describing a lot of people on these forums. Just in the last few minutes I've already read several posts about how all the decisions are made behind the scenes by various unknown party bosses and we don't really have a choice. What they're really saying is that THEIR guy wasn't elected because he didn't have enough support from other voters in the primaries. Whenever someone else gets the nomination it must be because of those sinister power brokers working behind the scenes. No wonder more people don't vote because they actually believe this crap. How about being honest and admitting that your guys aren't always the most popular and don't win for that reason?

Good point. But then, I always said that representative government would die with a whimper, NOT with a bang!

If we are going to solve the problems first we have to agree on what the problems are.

You do a good job of pointing out the problems.

I think you deserve any respect you get for your input.

It is just that we can not make much headway in solving problems until most of us can agree to on just what the problems are & what or who is behind them..

Yes most of us are at fault for not doing as much as we can to do what is needed.

Your words speak volumes. Your words ring true.

The long standing words: "United We Stand Divided We Fall"
seems to have been lost in all that is going on.

Why must we fall in to the trap set by those that would keep us divided?

Because it's easier, that's why it's so effective. No one wants to work anymore, or endure any hardship. The truth is, people are afraid of their own shadows. Fear of losing, of being rejected, of being embarrassed. That's why texting has pretty much replaced most "face to face" communication, it's less scary.

That is also why politicians court and try to control the media. Town hall meetings are a sham, as they are scripted and the script is protected by the police. Do ordinary citizens organize these things? You know they don't, they may show up, but it isn't necessary, and if they did, they'd be afraid to raise an outcry about the sham, because they know they'd be arrested. Now I wonder, since the police answer to a Mayor who is a politician, why the police would participate in such criminal actions?

Getting people to "wake up" to their own responsibilities, their own complicity in the things they don't like, and their duty to themselves and their children - will take tremendous work ( on someone's part ), to overcome the inherent weakness, fear and laziness - of the American people. We WERE the greatest Nation on Earth, but we decided to ride our former laurels, take our ease, get all the stuff we could and let someone else do the work required to KEEP a Nation great and, consequently, turned our Country over to a lower life form to run. Planet of the ape's indeed.

No matter who runs for any office must also have millions to go thru the processing of getting votes. Most of the government people buy their way in into almost all offices.
The small man - who needs to be in office and is honest - does not have the financial means to do anything.
We need to set up some financial accounts, and stick to them regardless of anything and no outside finances being allowed, so that the small man can have just as much rights for any office and the big shots..

Except for President, all elected offices are from local precincts/districts, so why the need for all that money? Why run State wide adds for 10 counties? Why flood every mailbox with pamphlets when only a small portion of a State is effected? I think because it gives a sense of power to have someone else campaign for you, not people from your district, but faceless companies who's JOB is to do this sort of thing. Spend your time partying with the rich, while some company does your campaign work for you.

I think all campaign finance sheets need to be made public. How much was received and from who, how much was spent and on what. This needs to be made available before each primary and before the general election. The average American can go into the campaign office and ask to see those records and, by law, they have to give them up. Try to do it though and they'll try to convince you that they're private. Why? because they know you'll be pissed off if you DO see those records.

Well at lease all of that campaign money gives the economy a shot in the arm.

Now if we can only make those that get the most money the biggest losers.

I say that if your state is getting money from out of state support for candidates those are the ones not to vote for.

Even if it means you leave you vote blank for that office or just write in any name.
