As for your ranting about maps and percentages (does not apply to the topic) might I suggest you dig up your old high-school algebra text book and look up how to compute ratio and proportions - using means and extremes. It's not hard and even the likes of you can learn.
Once you get the hang of logical thinking you might even want to start learning about computing back azimuths when reading a map.
