This is not a right or left thing. I do not need to follow any of the alphabet media to form analysis of Trumps clearly observable behavior.
A lie, is a lie, is a lie. Same goes for blustering, obfuscations and prevarications. The Trump Presidency is a wasted opportunity to actually restructure the political landscape and is being squandered by a person of low integrity and intellect. His only genius is in convincing suckers like you that he stands for conservative values while his lifestyle and cult of greed belies that fable. Attack me if you wish but you and your buddies here just waste energy while totally failing to address the realities staring us all in the face.

Donald Trump’s praise this week of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been presented by much of the Washington political class and US corporate media as an anomaly in history and a stark deviation from political norms.

It is not normal or right, they tell us, for US presidents to meet with and applaud dictators of brutal regimes. This kind of phony virtue-signaling was all over the airwaves and the Twittersphere on Tuesday. It was like a competition with the winner being the person who could publicly register their disgust and dismay in the most dramatic fashion possible.

One former Republican lawmaker tweeted that “never before” in history had a US president “spoken this way of a dictator accused of crimes against his own people” — an outright lie, as pointed out by journalist Glenn Greenwald, who detailed a number of occasions when American presidents and top ranking officials had indeed heaped praise on dictators — from Barack Obama’s praise of the late King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia as a man who had “the courage of his convictions” and who was “dedicated” to his people, to Ronald Reagan’s praise of former Guatemalan dictator Efraín Ríos Montt as "a man of great integrity" — to Hillary Clinton’s description of Hosni Mubarak as a "friend of my family."

In the real world, even the most mildly politically-aware person knows that meeting with and praising dictators is par for the course in US foreign policy. The United States has a long history of befriending, praising and propping up brutal dictators all over the world — and flattering Kim with a few meaningless comments designed to foster goodwill is absolutely mild in comparison with the tangible support the US lends to other dictatorships.

Curiously though, many of those shouting loudly in protest at Trump’s praise of Kim are unbothered when American presidents — Trump included — lavish praise on those friendly dictators that Washington relies on to help serve its geopolitical interests. While they breathlessly condemn Trump for cozying up to Kim for a few hours in Singapore, they are nonchalant about US support for brutal regimes like Saudi Arabia.

Last year, peace activist and former Green Party candidate for Illinois governor Rich Whitney, compiled research in an effort to dispel the myth that the US opposes dictatorships and champions democracy around the world. What he found would not come as a surprise to any rational observer of global affairs, but would surely shock heavily propagandized Americans who have been led to believe that their country promotes freedom and democracy since they were waddling around in diapers.

Analyzing publicly available data, Whitney found that the US provides military assistance to 36 out of 49 nations that democracy watchdog Freedom House classifies as dictatorships. In other words, the US provides military support to a whopping 73 percent the world’s dictatorships while simultaneously claiming to be the most virtuous and well-intentioned nation on earth.

There is one determining factor when it comes to the decision to lend US support to a foreign government or regime — and it is a simple one: If that government or regime is sufficiently subservient to Washington and serves US global interests in any meaningful way, it will be protected and propped up at almost any cost. Its crimes will be swept under the rug and human rights concerns, along with freedom and democracy, will go straight out the window. Every now and then, some US official may pay lip service to its supposed moral values by expressing “deep concern” over some heinous incident or other before swiftly moving on.

This is the reality, yet we are still told to believe Trump is some kind of historical anomaly and subjected to endless think-pieces and on-air pearl-clutching over his “problematic” affinity for some questionable characters. The narrative goes, that before Trump, US leaders were all going around crushing dictatorships and delivering peace and prosperity to oppressed peoples everywhere. This kind of revisionist commentary is completely disingenuous and utterly at odds with reality and history — yet it is spewed unquestioningly from the mouths of journalists, analysts, various “experts” and regular Americans without so much as a pause to consider whether it has any basis in fact. It would take far too long to list every instance of the US supporting — and indeed installing — brutal dictatorships around the world, but there are some that stand out as particularly shameful moments in American history.

What are you going to do? Call him, Kim, a SOB and tell him how big a piece of shi# he is as a person. I don’t think applying a little adulation will hurt things. A person like Kim likes that kind of thing. It strokes his ego. You must remember he has nukes that can reach the United States. We have a D-5 SLBM that can wipe out every city in N. K. with a push of a button. He knows that fact. He ain’t dumb. He also knows that his constituency can rebel and he is out of power. The military can put a gun to his head and boom! I think he wants economic help from the West to ease the tension that his nation is under going. This will help assure Kim’s power. How to deal with that I will leave it up to President Trump. We have to keep our eye on him and make sure he lives up to his end of the bargain. You don’t accomplish anything if you are not willing to take a risk. Remember what President Kennedy said, “Let us not be afraid to negotiate!”

You don’t get anywhere when you sit on your ass, bash the President 24/7 and try to criticize and undo everything the man is trying to accomplish as our Leader who has our best interests at heart.

Eden, you are using a leftist ideology which was futile when used against the Great President Reagan when he defeated Communism in the USSR. You leftists fight those who fight evil but don't fight evil. Trump fights Kim Un and may get total denuclearization on the Korean peninsula but you want to fight Trump for doing this. Wise up you little snake and put that forked tongue back in your mouth. You can't handle the truth.

Yes, eden does hate Trump and America and is a worthless leftist. Let him wallow in his hatred and bigotry, we have more important issues to worry about, like saving our country from 8 years of ovommit, hitlary, comey, mueller, lynch, holder, pelosi, and the demonic demonrat party.

You don't get it! I love pulling there a chain, I understand they are lost in their insanity over socialism and Trump.
I don't think my hate is making me stupid.
But I do think a lot of the conservatives on this site are gutless and afraid to speak up.

This is not a left or right issue to me. I will be the first to congratulate Trump if he pulls this off. As most analysts have pointed out Kim needs to have us as an existential threat to the survival of his regime so it is not in his interests to open up his hermit kingdom to western ideas like democracy and freedom of thought. Once his people have full bellies and access to consumer goods they will realize the truth of the Kim dynasty and its harsh oppression. ( In other words he knows he could end up lying in a drain somewhere with several bullets in his brain delivered by his own people a la Gaddafi.)

Previous Presidents have secured promises from the Kims only to have them walked back or reneged on.
What Trump has secured is worthless so far, nothing verifiable, no dates or a place to start.
North Korean media has cherry picked moments from the summit such as Trump saluting their general but nothing about a commitment to denuclearize.
Defending every action by Trump makes you sound more like a Dear Leader devotee than a real American who can think independently.

You left out McCain, Flake, Corker, the Bushes and half Trumps opportunistically adopted party,
(The GOP)
Reporting verifiable facts is not bigotry or hate.
There is no hate in my posts, just contempt for stupidity and those that blindly support it and it would appear that the majority aggregate opinion feels the same way at the moment.

I see you don't quite understand what you have read. Name one tangible concession Kim has won from Trump. There has been no reduction in the restrictions put on his country. He has not received any money from the U. S. A., he has received no commitment, except to kept having negotiations moving forward until Kim either keeps his agreed to commitment to end his armament of NOKO or refuses to give up his nuclear arsenal. How many times have other Presidents been given assurances by dictators and then having reneged on the agreement or stated there was a red line not to be crossed and then the dictator did the same thing with nothing being done? It seem that you progressives have a very short memory.

You said nothing about Kim spinning the event to his people. I would ha done the same thing to prevent a nuclear attack on this country by a dictator. But you progressives are to unhinged and intent on getting Trump removed from office at any cost even if it causes damage to this country.

I said plenty about Kim spinning the event to his people and more importantly why, (perhaps you were on a bathroom break.)
Some want Trump removed from office, just like some wanted Nixon out, was that unhinged?
Personally it would be better for the country if he was not impeached, just forced to listen to a Congress no longer controlled by one party. His blundering and ignorance on the world stage and at home would be curbed, at least in implementation, by smarter voices. He could continue to rage against the world via twitter but that will only sustain late night comedians until his term ends.
