I don't think that he would do that. Are you ex Military? I know for some like Slats he was a Vietnam Marine vet and there are things that still hit him hard. He doesn't go into detail and like a lot of them they have seen things that is to hard for them to handle and they have a hard time opening up to anyone. I didn't serve but I can only imagine and I am sure that my worst images are nothing in comparison to the truth.
Yeah, retired from the AF in 93. Never saw combat, we just practiced being ready all the time. The officers do most of the fighting and we keep the planes safe when they are on the ground. Everything is geared to keeping planes in the air and ammo and bombs in the planes. Of all the branches it's probably the easiest to serve in, fewer deployments, family separations, and divorces. It also takes longer to get promoted and there is more politics. Every 6 to 8 years the AF reinvents the wheel so officers can move up or out. Pilots never want to fly a desk or retire, unless forced to. I loved the AF until I moved up in rank and got surrounded by politicians instead of leaders. When all the Vietnam servicemen retired, the AF went downhill for awhile and never made it back to the level it was during Nam. Nam supervisors would chew you out, load you with additional duties but hardly ever write you up. When they left everyone started getting kicked out for minor things. Those Nam supervisors kept those officers, on power trips, off our backs. A bad officer can ruin your career or get you killed.
