We can do what Israel has successfully done to stop school shootings, but how will that re-sahpe America?

American policymakers should look to Israel for guidance. Living constantly with the threat of terrorism, Israel solved the problem of school security long ago by hardening the target and tightening security practices. Every school with 100 or more students has at least one well-trained armed guard stationed at entrances to monitor who comes and goes.

These guards operate under the auspices of the Israel Police and undergo rigorous training every four months. Roughly 40% of applicants fail the training test, ensuring that only the cream of the crop defend the schools.

And our children are safe? From being murdered or injured? Yes, better protected from that, at least. But how does it subtly or profoundly alter their view of the world? Armed vigilance? The presence and reminder everyday as they enter what is meant to be an island of learning and discovery, a place of study and thought, that the world is a hostile and dangerous place that cares little or nothing for children or knowledge? Such a state of affairs will alter minds more than LSD. Fear would become the presiding emotion, an unconscious inculcation of dread, not unlike the PTSD of children in alcoholic and abusive home. Life is unsafe and dangerous: what to do?

Psychologically, we know what kids do under the sense of constant threat: drugs, crime, self-sabotage, under-achieving (for fear of being noticed), suicide. But those represent just about 15%. The life-attitude alteration affects about 60%, becoming far less tolerant, more authoritarian, quicker to anger, slower to show compassion, and more prone to be tribal. An astonishing 20 to 25% appear to be permanently effected, working through it, accepting the past and moving on with their lives. Which raises a curious and obvious point.

We are not all equal. Some do see and think better than others. Like me. Fun.

If you have never been to Israel, you really would do youself a favor by having no input. Your image absolutely makes me sick, first thing in my mind is child molester.

The only thing I can think of worse than constant shelling for days, weeks, believe me you get used to that, is living in your home, going to work everyday, knowing your home has less than a 50/50 chance of getting shelled.

You must be someone who has no compassion, no family, never had any adversity, never lost a loved one. I pity you. If you will change your disgusting image, I will pray for you. I am a work I process, not yet able to pray for child molesters.

If you really cared about these kids, you would put your obsession of gun control and your beliefs of a pacifist and do what is necessary to save kids! There is something already psychologically wrong with some of these kids or maybe it's medically! And they will get much worse for all of them if they continue having to go to school with the fear of getting killed! If a disturbed 17 wants a gun, they will GET one. There are 215 to 357 million guns in this country! There're not going away! Do you think it is logical to believe that every one of those guns can be secured where a 17 year old can't get to it? If you do , you don't know kids! There is only one way to be sure a kid doesn't kill another kid, and that's to keep that gun out of the school by whatever means it takes. That's what you call logical thinking or common sense. I know, you would rather talk about gun violence and love your enemy. This isn't about you and your lifetime of fighting ( sorry I said fighting) for your beliefs! It's about making a difference in this burgeoning problem

Trump ended a national study into gun violence, that may have helped to un-arm a seventeen yo bent on vengeance. Look at how car safety improved with a similar study.

Soooooooo you’re going to depend on a NATIONAL STUDY to stop the next shooting! In other words, it’s all about you, it always is! You never addressed the number of guns in our country and the availability of those guns that can only be stopped by gun confiscation, which will not happen! And the only sure way of stopping a shooting by keeping the gun out of the school and changing their desire to take another person’s life! Let me know when you get serious! After days and days on this subject, you’re just running your mouth and looking for a subject to get attention! I’m done!
