If your mind isn't made up and you are still open to more information, you might be interested in this. 1. Semi automatic rifles have been around since Winchester put their old "self-loader" on the market in 1909. No mass shootings. 2. Semi automatics with large capacity magazines have been available since the government declared the M-1 carbine obsolete and released it to the public fifty years ago. No mass shootings. I got curious about this and hypothesized that perhaps drugs might have something to do with these horrible tragedies. Much to my surprise, it was not illegal drugs. Go on Google or You Tube and type in "mass killings/drugs." It turns out that most, if not all of these killings are done by folks who have been prescribed certain psychoactive drugs. About 1 in every 1000 gets side effects of delusions, suicidal thoughts and violent behavior. I spoke with a gentleman at a recent rally in Montpelier, VT. He is a professional in the field of psychology, and said that these drugs are very useful and enable many people to live better lives, but did not dispute the fact that they have some bad side effects. My daughter, who worked for Pfizer (before they sent her job to China) told me that these drugs should be flagged on medical computer systems, so that patients using them are checked every three months. She mentioned Paxil in particular, saying that patients would come back after two years or so, overweight, feeling terrible and having suicidal thoughts. These same drugs are strongly linked to the high suicide rate among veterans. While speaking with my state Rep, who has never seen an anti-gun bill that he did not like, he did finally admit that the pharmaceutical industry donates far more money than NRA ever dreamed of. I will be the first to admit that the present leadership of NRA is somewhat inept. It isn't like it was when Elmer Keith, Julian Hatcher and Charlton Heston were the public face of NRA, but to condemn them for wanting to sacrifice children is unfair. Put the blame where it belongs. Big Pharma.

When Black Americans feared for their lives it was the forming of the NRA who stood against these murdering democrats. 70 years latter these same democrats, only more stupid fought against anti-lynching laws and every equal rights bill that even got near congress. The NRA stepped in again and was at the front. It was a place every boy and girl from 1870 till 1970 learned the responsibility, safety, and use of firearms. They have held both the tyrants and their useful idiots at bay and I don't see any tyrants on this sight. It's little people like you trading your freedom for some government entitlement then went on to trade your liberty for false security cause God knows if it were not for Big G you wouldn't know when to wipe or how many ply to use when doing the wiping.

As for all them patriots keeping America free.....That sort of went out with the Dick Act of 1903, which effectively got rid of the Militia Act of 1792, which had required every voting citizen to supply himself with a a "suitable firearm" and to train with the militia company of his community. The Dick Act also changed the old National Guard into a Federal Reserve army. I've heard that there was a Senate committee in 1987 that concluded that the present National Guard is not the militia as envisioned by the Founders. Anyway, we don't have an effective militia anymore. So when some autocratic bunch takes control of the government, we won't be organized enough to resist. Our military does take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that may be our salvation. When I was Ground Comm officer with an Air Nat. Guard fighter group long ago, we got a strange TWX from NGB one day. It ordered us onto 24 hour alert "in support of the Constitution." !!!! I found later that the regulars got a similar message from JCS, but theirs was a bit more specific. If they got orders to arrest members of congress or the Supreme court, they were to ignore those orders! A couple of days later, Dick Nixon resigned. But organized or not, if they want mine, in the immortal words of King Leonidus.....Molun Labe!
