My son went through Air Force training at Lackland, but spent most of his tour at Eglin AFB in the Florida panhandle. I visited him many times at Eglin, and did attend his graduation at Lackland.

Thank you, Jim. My son served 6 years, but was discharged, honorably, in 1999. I was/am proud of him.

I get no satisfaction whatsoever from revenge. I think it shows weakness. Why let such emotions control us? Rise above it!

I still yell Eyes right when we drive past a pretty girl

I went to Navy boot camp in Orlando, Florida from June through August in 1972. (Hot and humid as hell there at that time of year!) It happened to coincide with the transfer of the first company of female recruits there right after the Navy transferred boot camp for females there from I forget where (Bainbridge, MD, I think?). Sometimes when we were marching in formation on the grinder (parade field), we would pass alongside a company of females marching in formation in the opposite direction. One time, our company commander (a salty old Engineman First Class (E6)), trying to be cute (and to kind of bond with us because we were forbidden from ever looking at female recruits), gave the order "Eyes, Right!", and we all turned our heads to the right to see the girls. The company commander of the female company (also an E6 female, but probably not quite as salty) showed a quick wit by instantly giving the order to her company, "Eyes Left!" so they all sharply turned their heads away from us (because they were likewise forbidden from ever looking as us males). Maybe you had to be there, but it was funny as hell at the time!

We were never exposed to any BAMS while I was in Boot Camp. As a matter of fact, I never even saw one during my three years in the Corps.

I recall seeing a couple at Camp Lejuene just prior to my leaving for Viet Nam. I understood their acronym much more clearly upon seeing them.

I had a younger aunt, by younger I mean she was 11 months younger than I, who was a BAM, but she joined the same year I was discharged, 1955.

How long was she in for? Officer or enlisted?

Enlisted I think. I don't now how long her enlistment was for. When I went in it was for three years, unless drafted, then it was for two years. I went in in '52.

Salty, I would have gone in with you, on the 'buddy system', but I was only 3 years old, at the time.
