The initial reports NEVER look good for police officers involved in shootings and the person shot is always portrayed as "innocent kids" just minding their own business. Stop for a moment and think about "hands up, don't shoot" fiasco and how many marches were in honor of that "innocent" man.....who turned out to not be so innocent. Or the one in NYC who was painted as a saint and "strangled" by officers.... Or the shooting by the female of the "innocent motorist" who had the misfortune of being broken down on the highway. And if the one being shot is black..... then the reports are without fail, biased against the cop.....even if that cop is also black!
Here is what Law Enforcement face ..... innocent man with a cell phone..... watch:

Where was the outrage? Where was the protests? Who was "angered" enough to set fire to neighborhoods? None? The news ran the story one time and then these dead officers were laid to rest in cemeteries across America and most people were unaware, or just ignored that these men and women were murdered.
Now then back to your "innocent" black man and South Sacramento. Did you know that crime rate in South Sacramento is 34 percent higher than other areas of America and you have a 1 in 27 chance of becoming a victim of crime.
http://www.areavibes.com/sacramento-ca/crime/ Now then Stephen (not Stephon) Clark...... a report when this first happened a few days ago.... said that he ran from the police. Next, you can plainly hear the cops shouting "Stop, show me your hands" but, he did not stop, and in his hands was an object. Said object was pointed at the cop. Now check out how the cops are made out to be murders of innocent: "Clark was never running from the police. He was already running through backyards and hopping fences in his neighborhood.." And the cops were supposed to know this..... how? " They yell at him to show his hands, say that he has a gun and begin shooting at him. They fire at him 20 times." Then going on: "The police claimed that they saw him with a gun, and the excuse everyone is making for that is, âWell, it was dark.â Well, guess what? Stephon Clark was in that same darkness and had no way of knowing who was coming toward him in that darkness as he stood in his own backyard. Have you ever been on the other side of a police flashlight? Those things are blinding and make it impossible for you to see anything. If the police didnât identify themselves as officers, how was he supposed to know who they were? " Let that sink in..... the cops singled out this innocent black man just standing in his own backyard..... wait, what about " He was already running through backyards and hopping fences..." Which was it, was he just standing in his backyard or had he just gotten there after running and hopping fences? And Clark could not know they were cops....wait, what about " Have you ever been on the other side of a police flashlight?" And "Stop, show me your hands" and the police helicopter circling above? I could pick this whole thing apart..... as could you, if you stopped and look at the tape, without emotions.
Now for your question.... why did they not just shoot him in the leg or arm..... watch this....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7TcXg9dPAI Look at the human torch, he is high on drugs and is on fire. He removes his clothes and calmly walks away, unaware of the fire or the danger he was in..... so shoot them in the leg and give them opportunity to kill you? Really??
Now watch the helicopter video:
