More Thoughts on Family

The family you come from isn't as important as the family you're going to have.

Children have more need of models than critics.

Creating a warm, caring, supportive, encouraging environment is probably the most important thing you can do for your family.

A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on.

A child is a beam of sunlight from the infinite and eternal.

A torn jacket is soon mended, but hard words bruise the heart of a child.

It is a wise father than knows his own child.

A father's interest in having a child...perhaps his only child...may be unmatched by any other interest in his life.

About his children every parent is blind.

We can either grace our children, or damn them with unrequited wounds which never seem to heal. Men, as fathers, you have such power.

Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to know my father, and my stepdad was an abusive child molester. I envy people with a real father/daughter relationship

So sorry that your earthly fathers weren't there for you, (neither was mine.) However we have an eternal heavenly Father that loves us with a love so great it is unimaginable, and is everlasting. I am not implying that a good father isn't what's best for a child, just that we ALL have a Father we can depend on.

Those of us 55 and under, or so, come from a generation where divorce lost its stigma. Where parents were encouraged to seek their bliss regardless of the consequences on those around them.I was a child of divorce at age two, and often wonder, how different my life would have been, had I been raised with both parents, instead of an alcoholic and a series of boyfriends. The answer is very, very different.
I had no control over that outcome, but find that being comitted to my family, which is rarely a blissful experience, brings healing to me, as I watch my children grow into secure productive members of society. I have a great relationship with my father, though it can never be as familiar as a daddy would be. We were both saved through Jesus Christ, and that brings us closer then our worldly relationship ever could. Today it is even more perilous to journey through childhood, without both parents, extended family is remote, and society is fraught with traps and diversions. Well my imperfect family remains intact, Dads a bit touched in the head, moms a bit off herself, but we are here.By the Grace of God.

That's beautiful and so true. Of both mothers and fathers. I came from an abusive household - abusive parents actually murder who their children might have been in slow motion. I was lucky enough tho to grow up in a time when you weren't trapped in the house with those lunatics and actually able to see how others lived. So I was lucky enough NOT to continue the cycle of abuse and abuse my own children.
