I often see remarks in this forum by people who dislike or hate California, who call it things like "The Land of the Fruits and the Nuts." I came across this comment by another writer in a different political forum and want to share it:

"California is the richest state in the nation. It has tenfold the GDP of more than half the other states. If California was an independent country, it would be the richest country on earth. If the United States didn't have California, it would not be in the top 30 of the richest countries on earth. The United States needs California WAY more than California needs the United States.

Formally from Jersey and now living in Florida I wouldn't mind one bit if California went solo.

California , is a very pretty state. BUT I wish the great big one would hit and then push the land mass out about 30 miles . then you could be a country ALL your own. I cant pull a 53 ft. trailer in this state without a permit. I cant drive but 55 mph . I loose every time I come out here time and money. I couldn't drive my truck out here being to old. yet she didn't smoke had decent mileage and could run with the best of them. your political people are just a bunch of health freaks that think they know every thing. if they knew so much then why don't they have desalinization plants all up your coast? yep they do have a hefty price tag . although you wouldn't have to worry about the "draught " any more. in fact you could probably sell water to Arizona and Nevada . those plants would be paid for in 10 to 15 years. sanctuary cities? if i hade people living in my basement and i knew that at least one of them was a criminal , although i was not sure which one i would be guilty of harbouring a criminal. yet your mayors are doing just that. also in other states. California, is pretty but you aint that great! don't you need more TAXES

Proud Republican, quote the article here. I am not willing to subscribe to a publication that costs I don’t know how much JUST TO READ YOUR ANSWER.

The very little I read talked about the danger of earthquakes. So move to Wyoming and get incinerated when Yellowstone explodes.

When Yellowstone explodes, you're close than I am, and won't make it. I have a fighting chance. But you prolly won't live to see either being a near fossil, and all.

Richard94611... I am a Conservative, and for one, believe in your facts... So much so that I believe California has earned the right to secede from the USA, if for no other reason than to see the USA collapse without California... And I have a sister living just outside of Los Angeles, and she has lived there for just under 50 years, in the same house married to the same man for 46 years... So, I have a personal reason to see California do as well as it can...

A separate Califonria would be a large loss to the USA, educationally, scientifically, recreationally, industrially, and socially, plus economically and sensibly. l would move back if I could. But I would not shed a tear if Texas would vanish.
