March 8th, 2013: South Dakota became the first state in the nation to enact a law explicitly authorizing

school employees to carry guns on the job, under a measure signed into law on Friday by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/09/us/south-dakota-gun-law-classrooms.html

The Tri-Valley School District in 2016 became the first in South Dakota to approve a school sentinel policy.

It allows for the arming of school employees, hired security personnel or volunteers. State law requires that sentinels be trained.

The law says that school districts may choose to allow a school employee, a hired security officer or a volunteer

to serve as a “sentinel” who can carry a firearm in the school. The school district must receive the permission

of its local law enforcement agency before carrying out the program.

The law requires the sentinels to undergo training similar to what law enforcement officers receive.

Do you wish that your state had such a law?

If it was a school for illegals they would be guarded by a company of Marines but it’s not so the regular folks just have to settle for no protection.
Can I get a giant thank you to Governor Moonbeam for taking such good care of the illegals.Thank You Governor.

Just curious: do you suppose teachers or administrators will be paid more for adding “law enforcement” to their job description?

Will the school district cover their liability insurance? Cover the cost for extra duty to train and practice...year around?

If it’s anything like what the school district does now: teachers will have to buy their own firearm, holster and ammunition.... just sayin’.

Friend of mine, a very entertaining guy... taught in a very rough school in Dallas.
He carried his own weapon of choice. He never thought about the cost.

It seems to be catching on at last.

A parochial school in New Mexico has deduced it is safer for the students if their staff are armed and ready to fire,

should a mass shooting occur. One pastor at the school carries a .45 around campus in a case that looks like a Bible.

Don’t count out the principle either, who is armed with a .38.

When the students were asked if they felt safer with armed teachers at the school, the entire class room said yes.

AS MOST ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE US DO NOT HAVE SRO THEY WOULD BE THE PRIME TARGET FOR A SCHOOL SHOOTER LOOKING FOR THE MOST CASUALTIES.
IT MAKES SENSE DURING THESE TIMES TO ADD SRO NOW AND NOT LATER.. WE SEEM TO CLOSE THE GATE AFTER THE COWS HAVE LEFT THE PASTURE.

Sentinals will not recieve any extra pay or benefits. Yes they have to provide their own equipment and ammo.

As for the cost of training, it falls fully upon the individual. Sentinals make sacrifices for this "right", some consider it a duty.

Our Sentinal program does not cost taxpayers "one red cent"!

Even a psycho with a rifle more than likely would not choose a location like this.

Don't know...that has never happened. The small rural school I attended in the 60s superintendent smoked a pipe. When you got in trouble there was no doubt your ass was going to get busted HARD. So instead of trying to get out of the ass busting we would make the super made as hell. He smoked a pipe and like all pipe smokers was constantly fiddling with it. We knew we had succeeded in making him mad as hell when he went to puffing sparks back out the bowl. He is old but still alive today and he and I are friends and I still have the upmost respect for the man.
