Alicia Loc: NYC

For all you Westerners: I'll bet you've never seen a show or an animal and rider like this. Olympic Champion of Dressage. I've seen dressage many times - yes, even in NYC. The best rodeo I've ever seen was the one from Mexico. I will never forget seeing women riders in their long skirts and riding side saddle, with both lines galloping toward each other and, to stop, all horses sat on their haunches.

This particular show caused me to cry at its beauty. I present to you the greatest.

Enjoy.

Many years ago I had an opportunity to buy a print of Secretariat signed by penny chenery, the owner, lucien lauren, the trainer, and Ron turcotte the jockey. It's one of my favorite pieces of sports memorabilia.

He also had an extra large heart that pumped all that oxygen and blood through his body.

That's why and how he ran the 73 Belmont and won by 39 lengths. As a teen I was awestruck by that horse and the race. I doubt that record will ever be broken.

Couldn't agree more. He was a mutant freak beautiful hunk of horse flesh, and I grew up with working and running quarter horses. My jaw hit the floor during that race and figured they must have shot him up with something for a long time. Didn't he get on the cover of Sports Illustrated?

Any time I have the desire I can take a 30 minute ride and I'll be in the heart of Kentucky's horse country. Watching those beautiful animals running across the pastures of blue grass is a great way to spend an afternoon. I'm an old man now but still miss my horse days.

I hear you, but you do know they make seat belts for saddles and have for years. I knew several cutting horse old timers who refused to quit ridding and enjoying a good cutting horse because of age, so they figured out a "work around". Must of been part redneck with a "can do attitude", ha.

My dad was a quarter horse guy too, when I was I about 9 he bought a beast of a horse. Not sure of the pedigree but he was about 16 hands and crossed with appaloosa. Very spirited. My dad never rode him that I can remember. He hired a horse guy to work with him. One day he saddled him and got on and bam that horse took off and ran like the wind. Too much for our family and my dad sold him, but he was a handsome devil and the soul to match.
