Food stamps are certainly a form of compassion for the poor. Keeping up our national parks is certainly a form of compassion for future generations. Not ending social security, or not reducing it, represents a certain amount of compassion and a lot of fairness. (We paid for social security, remember ? Out of our pay checks. And now your man in the white house wants to diminish the amount of payments or take them away entirely.) Medicaid is certainly a form of compassion. Medical care that saves lives is important, and certainly a form of compassion. Keeping the consumer protection agency so we get treated right by corporations is certainly a form of compassion for people who have been cheated and cannot turn the situation around. Getting rid of certain types of guns so students are not murdered in their schools is a form of forward-looking compassion. I could go on and on with a much larger list, but with you, what's the point ?
By the way, many, many societies practice abortions legally so most children are brought up by families affording to give them a decent life. You are out of step with most humanity on this one.
What does government exist for ? Answer me that. My answer is "to promote the well-being of its citizens." What's yours? Tell us what you consider to be the legitimate purposes of government.
