Before Obama took office and for the eight years of his presidency we got a constant barrage by the NRA, Republican legislators, Conservative Media, and alt-Right conspiracy theorists that he was going to take away all guns (with "black helicopters" confiscating them in the middle of the night and taking the owners to "FEMA concentration camps"). He didn't do that. He did tighten gun control by executive order in January of 2015. Obviously, it was not enough.

The rate of murder or manslaughter in America by firearm is the highest by far in the developed world. We have had 18 school shootings in the first 45 days of 2018. Is it really right to do absolutely nothing to try and curtail this excessive violence? Or are more and more guns the answer? "Thoughts and prayers" are falling short and come always too late to save our children. And the nuclear argument that any control means the eventual end of Second Amendment rights to cease all discussions on the subject is wrong and irresponsible. The subject needs, demands, open and sincere dialogue for the sake of our nation's innocents and all citizens.

Debating the actual intent of the wording of the Second Amendment is useless; it no longer matters. You and I both know the Founding Fathers could not have possibly envisioned our present state and this is not 1776. What matters are American lives. We keep our guns, yet make sensible universal controls to try to insure greater safety for all. If there was a pandemic, and this rampant violence is a pandemic, Federal measures would be taken to protect the general public. Safeguards to help reduce this epidemic of murder and mayhem is simply just and wise. Help me see why we shouldn't act on better precautions. Or are we just to accept these tragic loses as "the cost of freedom," as O'Reilly said, willingly sacrificing our sons and daughter's for the "un-infringed" right to keep and bear arms?

Some people refuse to believe that. They are usually the ones who still believed in the Easter Bunny in Junior High School.

In Virginia we have armed guards in some of the high schools, which is perhaps an improvement, but the guards would be the very first target of a deranged shooter. Apparently, there is only one guard per school in dangerous areas, when I believe the minimum should be two per building, since many schools and colleges have multiple buildings. In addition, there should be video and metal monitoring of all entrances and hallways, with a staff to do the monitoring, and alerting of guards when someone tries to sneak a weapon into the school. It would not be perfect, but it does have a reasonable chance of preventing obvious attempts to come in and shoot up the place. Further, it would be expensive, but worth it, I believe.

On the medical side, I am all for preventing access to guns for loons, but it is not easy to implement because doctors do not want to cooperate, fearing prosecution on the one hand for failure to make a proper diagnosis and the cost of insurance, and violation of patients rights to privacy on the other. This need to be pursued further.

In the end, if a loon or criminal wants to get a gun he will, and he will do what he wants with it, especially in the multitude of crowded places. In this instance I am in favor of having people with concealed carry weapons standing by, either as paid guards, or as concerned and trained citizens with the permission of the city, the event place and the schools.

In my estimation, every gun owner should be trained adequately before he can purchase a weapon.

Full disclosure: I am a member of the NRA and the VCDL, and I have a number of hand guns, carbines, shotguns and rifles. I was trained in the proper use, carry, and safety storage of weapons, first at a summer camp, second at military prep school (virtually all small arms in military use at the time), and third in the Air Force. I go to a range periodically to keep up my skills, and it includes shooting under stress.

How many "kids" in the womb are murdered on a daily basis salty?

The same people that are crying for "GUN CONTROL NOW" are the same ones who support PRO CHOICE due to, as "they" say "because it's a woman's right" to murder a child in the womb.

Get real dude.

Why does everyone look past the obvious. As I stated numerous times, there 1000's of retired military men who would gladly donate time to monitor schools on a voluntary basis. 4 hour shifts at entrances. Simple no cost solution, win win for everyone.

A radical progressive Prog, will blame the Right for anything, anytime , anywhere..."

I do wish these people could understand the Simplicity of the cure...is "Get Control of "Our YOUTH!"

Hollyweird, Video Games, and one thing that would help immensely...have law where children under 21 cannot gain access to anything sexually perverted (rated adult)...porn should be against the law anyway...or the plethora of shows on Lucifer..the enchanted world and intermingled with humans...this style of perverse so called entertainment is what is making kids loose grip on reality... Look at the violence that Hollywood pounds into underdeveloped minds as exciting and real fun...with no chance of consequence...The only celestial being avoided is the Creator of all things...How did we take GOD out of the schools??..In my estimate..by taking the paddle out of the school office and replacing it with psychology, psychiatrist and the pharmacist..this has added to delinquency.. nurturing rebellion and promoting bad behavior by asking the kid why he/her hit their mom...when there is no reason for it... I have watched this first hand..A lady who I Know well...is a teacher of special needs kids...This lady has managed to rear a daughter,..that is unbelievably mean..The daughter absolutely wields the throne of the house... every time this kid acts like she wants to harm herself...they go to her 'councilor' for more useless analysis...when a structured corporal punishment would work well..

There are some kids who will not conform easily and some with actual brain function deficiency who need constant care... everyone knows that..

If society does not structure itself... society is done...

This is just partly what I believe would stop the kid violence..

My 2 cents. Now days when you apply for a job most boss’s search the applicants Social Media. I would suggest the feds do the same with the background check. Armed, trained guards and metal detectors. Problem of course, expense.

Here’s a real outside the box idea. We spend more per students education than any country in the world. How about giving parents a choice of letting their children take their classes at home. Money could be spent on Wi-fi and laptops. We, none of us are safe because we have police. If your hurt or killed you or your estate can’t sue the police. Proving you and only you are responsible for your personal safety.

'Sorry, I honestly don't understand why the resistance to tighter gun-control'
Because government thugs have them.
communism.
Fascism.
100's of millions slaughtered by them.
Who do you think in the past was behind disarming its citizens?
Who was successful?
We have a mental disease problem;
A moral break down.
Who has promoted that?
The "Gun Problem" is a red herring. A distraction.

Who has noticed the hypocrisy of Hollywood and its productions?

BTW; time for liberals to get a clue to the problem; and go after Big Pharma and the drugs it pushes. Time to go after the partnership with the mental health professionals also.

A "moral breakdown" indeed!

Could it possibly be due to the proggies infiltration of our schools?

I'd like to suggest tighter cell phone and internet control. No one under 21 gets access to a cell phone and the internet can only be used by those in school while in school for educational purposes. No computers at home for those attending school K - Masters Degree!

The AR15 is described as a "highly efficient killing machine." WTF. It can have adopted magazines of 60 to 100 rounds. What other purpose than the right choice for terrorists and the mentally disturbed? Or hunting herds of sheep? There is no defense for owning a weapon like this except for the deranged, delusional, or the disturbed.

Maybe to resist enemies of the country like communists, who have taken over the dimbo party. Take guns out of the hands of Patriots, and communists, and other tyrannical governments take control. The sole purpose of the 2nd Amendment is for Patriots to rise up against tyrannical governments that seize control. You honestly think that Patriots with pea shooters would have any chance of standing against corrupt police, and soldiers controlled by communists? There is no distinction between muskets of that era, and semi automatic weapons of today. The 2nd Amendment gives me the right to have ANY self defense weapon I need. To clarify this,....If I had the money to, and wanted an M1A1 Tank, with artillery rounds, that is my RIGHT. Ridiculous? Yes! But it is MY right. Not the governments right.

Under Obastard, he abused rights of Americans. The corruption was staggering. Using executive orders to unilaterally ignore those laws he opposed. Using the FBI to spy on Trump in order to find, unsuccessfuly, evidence of collusion. You have seen (unless you watch communist traitor FAKE news) pictures of tyrannical governments. They all took away the rights of citizens to carry weapons. Why? Because they knew that people would resist tyranny. Except you traitors that are already lost to giving up whatever rights you have.

The mentally disturbed, or COMMUNIST TRAITORS are the only ones that cant see that.

It seems to me what I've read, puts a lot of this blame on the school it self. This boy-child was banded from coming into school if he had on a backpack. Why? Was it because teachers and administration knew he was a danger to the school?? Why weren't local police notified about his mental well being?? Where they afraid of back lash from groups like the very, very left wing ACLU?? You can pass all the laws you want but you'll never stop this until everybody from the classmates on up the chain gets INVOLVED!! If groups like the ACLU want to sue, well grow a pair and threaten to counter sue!! This kind of crap has got to come to a stop. Yes I love my fire arms and if I thought for a second that giving them all up would stop this I'd do it. But unlike the left I live in the real world!!!
