Larry the Legend Loc: Not hiding in Milton

"... I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky"

(Then) President William Jefferson Clinton uttered those fateful words 20 years ago today. Further investigation led to charges of perjury and to the impeachment of President Clinton in 1998 by the U.S. House of Representatives. He was subsequently acquitted on all impeachment charges of perjury and obstruction of justice in a 21-day Senate trial. Clinton was held in civil contempt of court by Judge Susan Webber Wright for giving misleading testimony in the Paula Jones case regarding Lewinsky and was also fined $90,000 by Wright. His license to practice law was suspended in Arkansas for five years; shortly thereafter, he was disbarred from presenting cases in front of the United States Supreme Court. And so the nickname 'Slick Willie' was born.

This is also the anniversary of the death of the 'Father of Modern Organized Crime' in the United States, Charles "Lucky" Luciano
(1896 - 1962). Born in Sicily but raised in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Luciano facilitated the killings of the city’s top two Mafia bosses and brought about fundamental changes to organized crime, setting up the Five Families to rule New York and establishing a National Crime Syndicate. Luciano was convicted on prostitution charges in 1936 but was paroled and deported at the end of World War II. Exiled in Italy, Luciano spent his last years helping the Italian and American Mafias make a coordinated push into narcotics.

One small correction is that Clinton was called "Slick Willie" by the Arkansas press long before he became President.

So I heard. The House didn't agree though. His Senate 'trial' was a total farce and everyone knew it but there you go. Slick Willie slithered through it. Of course, it did depend on what the definition of 'is' is...

Well Hillary certainly talked about that vast right wing conspiracy a lot before the impeachment and even more after it.
