They are very handily destroying the Strawman, (the use of which specific expletive the President did or did not say,) in order to deflect from the real problem with the entire message, and that is the racist notion that "we don't want dark skinned folks (who live in shithole countries) to live near us; we want to select our neighbors based on their superior merits, by which we mean pale skinned.

Petey, go away. You're a leftist mouthpiece. We get it. Just save time; Hit quote reply and leave it at that. We can easily fill in what you are going to say.

By which you mean pale skin. I want merit based immigration. If that means white I don't care. If that means a heart surgeon from Nigeria I am fine with that. It is you people that see race but act holier than thou about it. Haiti is a shithole. Does that make me racist?

No, it is that which it is assumed, by those who are in such an uproar, that Mr. Trump meant when he compared the continent of Africa and Haiti, etc., to Norway.

If the speaker were not racist, what other aspects of "Africa vs Norway" would be explanatory? This is a serious question, not snark. For instance, it might be relevant that very talented and successful people in countries with a standard of living and opportunity for successful happy lives are not especially motivated to emigrate. So perhaps we might come up short on candidates if we set the bar too high. Those folks have plenty of choices that many others (some of them Americans in the first place!) do not. Or the humanitarian considerations, like rescuing poor, persecuted Christians and other innocent victims, from shithole countries are an opposing but equally valid basis for accepting immigrants and refugees.

It would be racist to declare that people who look like people who live in shitholes are qualitatively inferior to the rest of "us" who look like people who live in "like, Norway."

So, we declare him non racist, despite a shitload of racist comments and attitudes?

I actually suspect you are correct that he is not simply a racist.

Because racism ("my race is better than yours!" often inferred from conservative views) or elitism ("my thinking is better than yours!" often inferred from liberal views) is an attitude, much of the time an unconscious one, and like fish in water, it is difficult to perceive that which permeates one's entire environment for one's or another's entire existence. It takes stepping back, or sometimes stepping closer, to get a proper perspective on one's assumptions.

I wonder what it is about the differing perspectives of (those we define as) liberals vs conservatives that produces such clearly divergent views in this instance?

The problem is not using an "explitive" -- who gives a shit. The problem is being racist. Racism is bad. You make judgments on individuals based on their race, gender, religion, country -- that is wrong. You should judge people individually. Even if you believe in Trump's "skill" standard -- and I don't -- you can find wonderful scientists or students on Haiti as well as Norway. You judge people on who THEY ARE, not some label you put on them.

I'm glad you had your daily dose of Kool-aid today. You sound like a typical libtard sycophant, who can't get enough propaganda & misinformation from the lamestream media to regurgitate on this site. Only the lunatic left would equate "racism" to a country of origin. The fake news media & the commiecrats absolutely pounced on the opportunity to play the race card (ad nauseam) yet again. If you can't win an argument on substance, simply call your opponent a "racist". That's how Dickless Durbin and the press have operated for years; obfuscate the issue with a phony racism indictment and divert the scope of the issue. A s***hole country IS a s***hole country, no matter what ethnic group is the majority there. Why DO we keep allowing low/no education and/or skills people from 3rd world countries to come here? Are they serving America's best interests? HELL NO, they're not! They're overwhelming our resources & treasury while many are taking jobs from American citizens who need work. Why do you libs persist in your futile attempts to save every downtrodden foreigner in the world but refuse to help the poor, needy & jobless right here in our country? And don't give me this "wonderful scientists on Haiti" BS. For every doctor or engineer that comes here from these places, there are THOUSANDS who are NOT going to contribute to our economy. In fact, they will be a huge burden on every taxpayer.
For the aforementioned reasons, and because of the current perils of international terrorism, America needs a total moratorium on ALL immigration until we can completely revamp our protocols which determine who can enter the U.S. safely(and productively) & who should NEVER have access to our nation. Wake up and hear me, America: The horrific truth is, if we continue to let our elected representatives cave to their big donors and special interest lobbyists, the globalists & big corporations will continue to completely & utterly destroy America's middle class.

It is impossible to categorize the hatred you leftists have for president Trump, the irrationality of it cannot be explained. Reason, logic and critical thinking have been purged from your minds, if such mental attributes were ever there in the first place. So shallow is your thinking that the only thing left for you is to play the race card.

There are countries, regions, states, provinces, cities and towns all over the world that are "shit holes" populated by people of all races and skin colors. Hell, you elitist leftist progs look at states like Alabama and Mississippi as shit holes populated by ignorant country hicks and knuckle dragging rednecks. You have vilified and condemned white people, you have branded those who oppose or reject your ideology as teabaggers and right wing extremists, you have scorned our veterans, mocked them, you label American gun owners as dangerous psychopaths. And the beat goes on.

All blood is red, all humans breath air, but you arrogant, self-righteous fools look down your noses at half the human race.

Trump never said a word about the color of anyone's skin, he was directly addressing the cultural conditions in which people are impoverished and uneducated, even illiterate. The Haitian Educational System, for example, yields the lowest total rate in the education realm and levels of poverty in Haiti are generally regarded as among the most severe in the western hemisphere.

You heard exactly what you wanted to hear. Not surprising since I think you hear voices. He was comparing the countries, economies,
education level, skill set and government. Why did I hear this? Because Trump has said many times immigration should be merit based. Otherwise he'd have said the people in those countries are shitheads. Oprah made an inflammatory statement about old white people with their racist beliefs just need to die. Didn't say they need to see their beliefs are wrong. She said they need to die. I actually wasn't offended. I see her point,
I just don't agree with it. Could you imagine the uproar if someone (white) said those gangbangers in Chicago don't need rehabilitated, they just need to die? You'd probably be jumping up and down saying racism, unless, of course a lberal said it.

The ridiculous accusation was your insistence that Trump is racist.

Detroit and Chicago are also crapholes and to say so makes no one a racist.

It makes them a realist.

"Shithouse", that's a lot better. One would think that a fella who just got 30% tax cut would be in a more charitable frame of mind.

Straw man Arguments are inherently fallacious.

Deflection is a strategy meant to confuse and obfuscate, thus dishonest.

To select or deny people for immigration based on their skin color, country of origin, religious affiliation is the opposite of what the President says he prefers, i.e., individual merit based selection criteria.
