3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, 3 for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking [a]like mere men? 4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere men?

In stating this, Paul gave the pagans (gentiles, barbarians) salvation, but not responsibility. I interpret this to mean that God saw it as the only way in which the pagans could be converted to monotheism.

But now it is time for them to mature, and take responsibility for their own sins.

The gentiles did not have to follow all the tenets of the Jewish law, such as circumcision (which they were very much against), in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven, as Christ promised. In another place, Paul stated: "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly." Meaning as well as for those who followed the moral law of the Jews.

I wonder what would have happened in Europe had the barbarians not been converted to what was perceived as a "loving God"? Being Europeans, they seemed to have had a constant need to butt heads, to prove to another they had more "prowess" than the other. It seems to be a European thing.

For example, an attorney speaking to a group of people was explaining how wills work. I asked him a question referring to "contesting" the will. He said something, then I said, "Well, it's America; everything is contested." Immediately he countered with, "No, it's not". Pure European. And he was an attorney, who make their living off of "contesting".
