A single mother neighbor of mine who works two nursing home jobs told me she makes to much money to qualify for food stamps. Interested I googled "food stamps" to find out how much money one has to make before one becomes disqualified for food stamps. I never did find out because family size and other factors are part of the calculation, but from the limited reading I did I found that a person has to have a job to obtain food stamps. The food stamp recipient has to have a job, expect for three months in a two year period, to qualfy. It would seem that these people who tell people on food stamps to get a job may be talking to people who already have a job. One of the paradoxes of the poor, like the substantial percentage of homeless people who work when they can get it.

Yes and now Trump has proposed slashing the WIC program. President Trump’s proposal to slash funding for the WIC program puts basic food security at risk for thousands of families. At an annual food cost of about $513 per person, the $200 million cut could help pay for a year’s worth of food and formula for nearly 390,000 participating women, children and infants.
Let's try and have big government force women to have children they can't afford to feed and let them starve in the streets...lovely the New American Right Way...who supposedly don't believe in BIG government...biggest lie yet.

Food stamps are a subsidy for businesses that fail to pay a living wage. The businesses are on the teet not the working poor.
The single mother of one I believe would qualify if eligible for $61.00 a week.

Food stamps are a way to get people dependent upon the government. People should have a job to begin with and not freeload off of the government.
I volunteered in a government housing unit years ago. Counseling, food preparation, you name it. On food stamp arrival day you could see many of these people selling most of their food stamps downtown that night or next day. Almost every government largess program on the tax payer dime is hugely inefficient full of fraud.

You are out of date, they have a card to use at the store now, and only food can be bought.
