Remember that song? Remember almost falling asleep on the interstate at 55 mph? If you don't, you can be forgiven, after all it was repealed in 1995. Here's 'the rest of the story':

In the fifties alot of the Western states had "Reasonable and Prudent" as a speed limit. This basically meant no speed limit. I was driving on US 40 in one of those states, which I can't remember, it was around 1 am and I was doing ninety on my cross country trip back home. A tractor trailor with two trailors passed me and almost blew me off the road. About two minutes later a state Trooper whizzed by at a high rate of speed. I attempted to catch up to see what would happen but I gave up at 115 mph when they disappeared out of sight.

Now you're going back to the 60s, maybe even the 50s. There were no rural speed limits back then.

In the late 60's I would take off after work on Fri. for Upstate NY to ski. I'd was in a 65 bug and would get close up to a trucker as you could trust them to warn you of any stops but would drag you up the road. Burned almost no gas, made better time than going on your own and never got a ticket. Folks back then knew how to drive and communicate with each other. Today I flash my lights to let some one know I'm letting them come over and they have no reaction which ends up causing problems. I'm so glad I'm as old as I am and Won't have to put up with the idiotisy that is only getting worse. Mike
