These people think they are Mother Nature and even though (despite all the scientific bravado) they really are limited in understanding how the climate machine works, they still have to convince the rubes that they're on top of it to keep the dough rolling.
Note how peppered with qualifiers most of the articles on climate change are.

They pretend the Earth isn't a machine. Even a cursory look at the historical record and chemistry would tell anyone without a political agenda that the world heats up and cools down on a regular basis and that gasses don't just hang around forever in the atmosphere. CO2 being heavier than air sinks, for example.
We're too far from the sun to become Venus no matter what Hawking thinks!

Everyone seems to totally forget the law of unintended consequences. Obama Care is a perfect example. We'll force the young people, who normally don't need healthcare, to buy premiums and use that money to cover pre-existing conditions and the elderly. Sounds good on paper but it sure as heck didn't work in reality. The young rebelled or couldn't afford the coverage so the plan didn't work. If someone does something massive to changer the changing climate, believe me, it will have terrible effects somewhere else. Bad, bad idea. I'm an Engineer so I have experienced unintended consequences in my life's work.
