So am I reading these posts correctly in the respect that all that's gone on since this admin has come to power is just fine and okie-dokie with those of you who are condemning the ones who voice displeasure with this admin, just for my own FYI, sorta want to test the waters to know how to respond n this forum.
I don't know if you're reading these posts correctly or not. But, as a Liberal, I do not think everything has gone "okie-dokie" since Obama has taken office. Having said that there are really two issues that concern political discourse on forums, such as this. Well there are probably more than just two issues, but I choose to deal with only two. The first issue is to identify the problems, facing the U.S. And the second issue is what to do about those problems. The first question is relatively simple the second question is extremely complex. And quite obviously the second question is the source of the division, in politics, that is so prevalent, in our society today. For an example let's take one of the main problems facing the U.S. today. It is a problem that is, directly or indirectly, responsible for the creation of the "Tea Party", the "National Debt". In this example we've just answered question number one, "identifying a problem". And remember this is an example and only an example of just one problem, out of many. Now let's move on to question number two, "what to do about the problem". To be very simplistic about the problem, it can be summed up like this...Conservatives want to cut all "Social" programs and cut all taxes and they basically feel this will solve our "National Debt" problem. And to be equally simplistic, on the other side of the coin... Liberals want to cut all military spending and raise all taxes, especially on the upper one percent, of the wealthy, in this country. And they basically feel this will solve the "National Debt"problem, as well. IMHO neither simplistic solution will solve the problem of the National Debt. The reason I highlight this example is because there are two distinct sides, of the "National Debt" problem, and no clear cut solution, on how to solve it. So you get all sorts of rhetoric from both sides claiming and implying that they represent the majority of Americans and even implying that every American agrees with their view and solution, to the problem. The reality is neither side speaks for ALL Americans, on any issue. And to dismiss valid opposing points of view by implying or stating outright that..."If you don't agree with me, you're UnAmerican"... is not only BS, it is inflammatory and only serves to strengthen the resolve of your opponent.
There are many issues facing this country, including the example I just mentioned; and none of them can be solved with the "simplistic" solutions offered by either side. But what must happen, in any case, to solve any problem, in this country, is both sides must work together. And working together, in this political climate, just isn't happening. And the reason it is not happening is because, in Congress, "compromise" has ceased to be an option. "Compromise" is something, at least for those who support the "Tea Party" have vowed never to do. So the schism, in U.S. politics, continues to grow.
This country is divided and without "compromise" there is no end to the political division, in this country. You see there are those on either side of the issue that will offer to be "peacemakers", but they will fail, in their efforts, to get problems resolved, because they are the "compromisers" and right now we have certain groups who have vowed never to compromise. So unless those who vow they will never compromise, change their tune, or become completely irrelevant politically, there will never be any solutions, to our problems. I believe that for every Conservative that believes he/she is right and that there is no other way, to solve a problem, and believes in "no compromise", there is a Liberal that feels the same way about his/her beliefs.
So whoever said people come on sites like these to let off steam, is absolutely correct. No problems, facing the U.S., are going to be solved on these forums, but it gives meaningless Americans a chance to vent.
