I was making $1 a day back then and I thought that was fair.
I started working in '59 at $1.25 an hour in a small factory that made equipment for the bottling industry. I was the shipping/receiving clerk and also put together small ancillary parts. I made a suggestion to the owner one day that resulted in improving the operation. A short time later he offered to pay for me to go to college to get an engineering degree so long as it would benefit the business. I declined the offer, because at 17 I'd just finished 12 years of school and had no interest in another 4 years. Hindsight is 20/20.
