[quote=RETW][quote=rumitoid]Here is what Kelly said at the beginning of his press conference: "I was stunned when I came to work yesterday morning and brokenhearted at what I saw a member of Congress doing," he said. "A member of Congress who listened in on a phone call from the president of the United States to a young wife," he said. "Absolutely stuns me. And I thought at least that was sacred."
Here is what is terribly wrong with this statement: Rep. Wilson is a longtime family friend who was there simply as support for the widow. Sergeant La David Johnson, 25, was in a mentorship program when he was young that was under the Congress woman's tutelage. She has been close to the family for decades. The call was on speaker phone. When Kelly uses the phrase "listen on" to clearly infer she infer that she was was she was only there to eavesdrop, and not the real reason: just to support a dear friend. Kelly took what happened way out of context. First thing to apologize for.
Apology Number two: the Congress woman's account of that call has been verified. Lara Trump on Friday backed up Rep. Frederica Wilsonâs (D-FL) account of President Donald Trumpâs phone call to the widow of a fallen soldier, even as she said she believed the congresswoman and the press took a comment that Wilson said was hurtful to the widow out of context. While Lara Trump argued that the Presidentâs comments were simply made public without the full context, her father-in-law launched a far less nuanced attack on Wilson. He has repeatedly accused the congresswoman of lying, even after Kelly essentially confirmed Wilsonâs story. Other people who heard the call confirmed that account, and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly backed it up Thursday when he told reporters that heâd advised Trump to tell Gold Star families that their lost loved ones knew what they had signed up for.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/lara-trump-confirms-wilson-account-trump-call-widowApology Number Three: either he was misled (lied to by Trump or another of his flunkies) or lied on Thursday when he falsely claimed that Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., had loudly boasted about obtaining money for an FBI building in Miami during a dedication ceremony he attended in 2015. (If attended that ceremony, then he is lying.)
We know this for a fact because, on Friday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel published video of Wilsonâs complete remarks at the event. What the video shows is that the Wilson instead described how she and other members of Congress had rushed through legislation to name the facility for two agents who died in the line of duty in 1986, Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove.
Wilson did not, as Kelly had claimed the day before, boast about getting $20 million for her district from President Barack Obama. Instead, she gave credit to politicians of both parties and went on to acknowledge the heroism of the agents who were killed in a shootout with two bank robbers. âToday, it is our patriotic duty to lift up Special Agent Benjamin Grogan and Special Agent Jerry Dove from the street in South Florida, and place their names and pictures high, where the world will know that we are proud of their sacrifice, their sacrifice for our nation,â Wilson said.
Apology Number Four: further politicizing this complete debacle by insulting a sitting Democrat of Congress calling her an "empty barrel" over comments she never made.
This is what happens when a lion goes to live among monkeys to help make them proud; the lion begins to gibber and swing from trees. It seems to happen to everyone around tRump.
