Hello, this is another new member who is hoping to join in political discussions without having to put up with name calling, and spiteful comments.

I don't know why talking about politics or world issues makes people so crazy and mean but from my experiences in 'real life' and in online forums, some people can't resist calling someone else of a differing opinion vicious, vulgar names. Reducing an intelligent, adult conversation to rabid, hateful name calling keeps the polarization of people going when we should be working together to help this country become stronger and better.

Despite some folks being "on the Left, Right, Center, Blue, Red, Lib or Con," whatever your political leanings are, we should all at least agree that we are united in our love of America.

We owe it to "the land that we love" to protect her, cherish and nourish her.
I hope to find some lively discussions and new friends here as well as share some positive ideas about the world we live in.

Peace, GP

Welcome. To comment on your comment, people get upset sometimes when discussing things they care about. I take the position that the name calling is better than the apathy that plagues this country and is largely responsible for the mess we are in.

[quote=Green Peace]Hello, this is another new member who is hoping to join in political discussions without having to put up with name calling, and spiteful comments.

People are people and public forums always attract a lot of trolls. After only a few days checking it out and leaving some comments I quickly found that the zealously religious leave a high percentage of the political comments, and some of these self-proclaimed Christians have no problem getting real personally insulting real quick. So you might as well be prepared. Otherwise, the site is well attended, comments come in faster than on Fox News comment-enabled articles, so it does get entertaining.

Greetings to both of you. As to name calling here, in most cases, if you don't start it, it will not happen, unless you happen to be a conservative. In that case, heaven help you if you expect to get though a day without getting called something. There are a couple of trolls here that love to stir things up and that seems to be their intent on this forum. Either ignore them, or don't post, but they will not go away. Anyway, have fun and I wish you well.

As you will see real quick, some cannot communicate with out name calling and getting personal if one comes to a different conclusion. It is nice to hear that others, like yourself, can express opinions clearly without personal attacks. Even though, sometimes one is incited to almost violate ones own standards.

Your name is intriguing. I am involved with Animal Rescues in Arizona and here in Virginia. I was wondering if you too have an interest? What is your position on Global Warming, yes I know it is no longer referred to in those terms, but for the life of me I can not recall what the politically correct term is now.

You will find some people that are very hostile and get rather impassioned regarding their beliefs. Those people are either ignored or played with; that is some fight just to fight. Do not let them or anyone stop you from participating. Many of the posters, to include myself, welcome you and look forward to seeing your opinions.

Hi. The "Blacksheep" is just one of my blogger names, first one to come to mind as it refers somewhat to the domain name of my blog, not to me personally.

The only animal rescuing I do is to have a rescued animal shelter cat for a pet and to fend off local kid's attacks on the squirrels around here. I like most animals more than most people, in plain fact.

I've been on the Internet since 1994 and I've come across all sorts of people. I fully expected to get the Attack Him welcome wagon as a newbie here and I wasn't disappointed, and it really doesn't matter or mean a thing. Trolls are trolls wherever you go.

Thank you very much for your welcome, it's appreciated.

Perhaps your presentation of yourself created what occurred.

Having said that, what kind of feline did you rescue. I have a dilute tortie that will have been with us nine months. She literally is a scaredy cat. Every sound still makes her go on alert, including the furnace coming on, which is happening a lot with our cold temperatures. Whoever had her previously, as a kitten, had her sleep on their shoulder. She comes prancing up, kneading her paws to settle for sleep on my shoulder and is quite disconcerted when I wish to turn over. It has been interesting. We have customarily adopted older felines so this has been most interesting. She has the sweetest little face. :-D

Welcome,

Many people feel strongly about there beliefs and for what ever reason eventually name calling happens here whether you want it or not.

Regardless, I found I have learned a lot and so I don't think much about it and have chosen not take it personally.

Some have shared that they take breaks from reading or posting when name calling negatively affects their life away from the computer. I find there are many topics that you can choose to read and participate or just pass because it doesn't interest you or you don't have time to participate.

Whatever your reason you are here, welcome and hopefully you enjoy being here.

Howdy again! Firstly, thanks for the welcomes! I know that I should maybe have a thicker skin when it comes to discussing politics and not let someone calling me an ass or worse bother me. It's hard to do because when discussing "adult topics" I expect to get treated like an adult and name calling is for kids...but then..."sticks and stones.." lol

I'm not the same person as the poster Blacksheep.

I believe that the planet is most definitely going thru some serious changes and I think that humans are harming more than helping. That being said, I believe that the "regular people" who recycle, don't litter, plant trees, drive less gas consuming cars, bicycle, etc are the true caretakers. It's the giant corporations who only care about money who are ruining our planet with unchecked pollution. Look at China! They can't even see or breathe on some days because the smog is so bad!
Look at Virginia and the pollution of their river/drinking water! The oil spill in the Mississippi! The awful radiation problem in Japan at their ruined nuclear reactors! It's the corporations who are raping and pillaging and ruining Mother Earth.

I also believe in rescuing a dog or cat instead of going to buy a pup or kitten. Every dog I've had for the last 20 odd years have been rescued. And they're all boxers, lol my favorite dog! As I write this my current boxer is curled up on the day bed under a blanket stealthily watching me in case I get up and head for the kitchen where her treats are. She came from an El Paso shelter and we were told she was being used as a 'breeder bitch.' And she was let loose on the streets of El Paso til she got picked up.
She's a desert dog and still has a bit of her "street attitude" lol.

So that's it about me. Happy trails...G

You gotta admit, at least most of the time, it beats apathy. There are some on this forum who never, ever, contribute anything but insults, but most at least express a viewpoint.
