I posted the comment that his reasons for doing so are unsound: he wants only to show the world that the U.S. is the strong man, the sole super power, and he is endangering the world with that childishness.

"Additionally, Trump announced “tough” sanctions against Iran that are unrelated to the nuclear deal. They target the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which is part of the Iranian armed forces. Trump has accused the Guards of supporting terrorism."

This last sentence means that since the Revolutionary Guards work with Hezbollah, attempting to keep Assad in power, Trump has "certified" that the U.S. is an enemy of Syria as well.

And Trump himself is an enemy of God.
