This is how far we have slid as a nation . To allow this to go on
for so long is intolerable . Heads should roll .
More information on 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone — the West Point graduate who posted pictures of himself advocating for communism while in uniform — and his time at the military academy has come to light, and this time, the school is going to have to answer.
In a 2015 report first obtained by the Daily Caller, retired Lt. Col. Robert Heffington — who was a history professor at West Point — provided insight of then-Cadet Rapone's insubordination.
Heffington was prompted to submit the report to Rapone's chain of command after a shocking encounter with Rapone and after seeing his communist-themed social media posts, such as “F**k this country and its false freedom.”
In the encounter, Heffington said Rapone managed to violate many rules, customs, and courtesies.
It started after the lieutenant colonel entered his office to grade schoolwork. Rapone and three other cadets were in an office nearby having a loud and vulgar argument. Eventually, it got so loud Heffington had to intervene:
At that point CDT Rapone (the only cadet wearing civilian clothes), who was seated in the corner of the office, replied (while still seated) by saying, “We're in a private conversion here.” I said, “Stand up when you speak to me.” CDT Rapone stood up and, before I could say anything else, said, “Sir you don't have the right to use my honor against me!” in a loud and extremely disrespectful tine of voice.
I then instructed CDT Rapone to accompany me out into the hallway, which he did...I asked Rapone what made him think it was okay to reply to a direct question from an officer with a response like that, and he replied, “Well you don't have the right to barge into an office and interrupt a conversion you don't have anything to do with!”
Heffington wrote that Rapone continued to argue with him and rebutted everything. The whole time, Rapone was disrespectful to the superior officer. According to Heffington, all that was required to diffuse the situation was an apology, but Rapone refused to give one.
Heffington reported he decided the argument was pointless and had to walk away from the situation: “He seemed to look at me with nothing but contempt and hatred, no matter what I said or how I tried to reason with him to show him how wrong he was."
When he talked about the situation to fellow officers the next day, they revealed their misgivings toward the cadet. After being shown Rapone's social media, it convinced the professor the cadet could not graduate and become a platoon leader.
After news broke of the avowed communists' posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) sent a letter to the acting secretary of the Army asking why he was able to graduate since Rapone stated he wanted to "infiltrate and sabotage the military.”
In its initial statement, the school gave no indication it knew of the second lieutenant's prior behavioral problems.
IJR reached out to West Point for comment but did not received one in time for publication.
