Opponents of the Second Amendment are trying desperately to politicize the tragic events in Las Vegas… but one key piece of information has thrown a wrench in their narrative.

Reports from numerous sources including The Sun state that the twisted shooter who opened fire on a concert across from his hotel likely used automatic weapons during his massacre.

“The crack-crack of automatic fire can be heard but because of the echo it is unclear where it is coming from, leading to confusion about where to safely run,” explained The Sun, referencing a dramatic video that was recorded by concert attendees in the middle of the cha

The Washington Post appeared to confirm that an automatic weapon was used in the incident. “The sound of gunfire captured on videos recorded during the massacre indicates that Paddock used at least one automatic weapon.”

“So far, at least one has been identified as an AK-47 type rifle,” said the Post.

If those reports are accurate, gun control-obsessed liberals don’t want the public to know about it. Left-wing outlets such as Quartz Media are in overdrive peddling the narrative that anybody can walk off the street into a store in Nevada and walk out with a fully-automatic weapon.

“You do not need a permit to buy a rifle, shotgun or handgun, nor do you need to register the weapon, or be licensed to own one,” Quartz reported — while burying the fact that a federal background check is required for all those purchases.

In addition to the background check requirement, there’s also the pesky reality about automatic weapons and machine guns: They’re extremely regulated already, and are illegal to own unless a stringent application and registration process is followed.

Automatic weapons fall under both the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. Under the law, every NFA firearm must be individually registered with the ATF. Before that happens, an even more in-depth background check is required, which includes photographs and fingerprints.

Any violation of the National Firearms Act is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

There’s also the fact that automatic weapons or even so-called “assault rifles” of any type are very rarely used during crimes.

Data from the FBI shows that rifles are the least common of all firearm types connected to murders. In 2014, for example, more murders were committed using blunt objects like clubs and hammers than with any type of rifle, let alone automatic weapons.

In simple terms, automatic weapons are already among the most regulated and rare firearms in America. Laws didn’t stop this maniac from carrying out his sick act, and a pile of additional regulations are extremely unlikely to have prevented this tragedy.
