This is quietly happening all over with international investors such as Mr.Lai, like a cancer, until one day we'll turn around and these foreign local large property owners will be influencing our local governing, who will worm their way into state governing, and so on.

One wonders how the US economy will improve if American jobs are offshored, but foreigners can't buy US property.

As far as I know they can and have been, not sure why you stated this as your post showed Mr. Lai buying a substantial quantity of property. I'll now check...http://manhattanmiami.com/2012/07/21/foreign-buyers-flock-miami-newyork/

This article also states foreign investors buying in Canada which is also true, my daughter who lives in Canada has just recently mentioned the Chinese buying up Canadian property, all very interesting and suspicious.

I don't believe there's a way for us to protect ourselves from this. Come to think of it I believe the historic Rockefeller Center is now owned by Honda Corp.

Foreigners can buy US property, but some Americans for some reason think foreigners shouldn't.

There is a lot at stake when our property is bought by foreigner's, something like a stock and control, and an eventual hostile takeover. I would like to say hello I don't recall having conversed with you before.

Actually, the foreigner is the one taking the bigger risk. Americans make money from the sale and the foreigner could be kicked out later, but can't the property with him.
