It's a term used in the old days for stealing stuff from the Navy, Air Force or Army. Marines were and probably still good at sticky fingers as they were usually shorted in favor of the other services or just wanted something they didn't have. Mike

Thanks, Mike Having no memory of hearing it before, I will now remember the term. Besides, I always enjoy learning new words/terms.

I got this from hanging a round my Dad and his gin rummy buddies, hell, even the Seals use the term. It's getting stuff not assigned to your unit. Either through trade or out right theft. I am surprised at you two. Both are too honest to be true Marines. Semper Fi. Mike

Thank you. I recall 'appropriating' whatever was needed or required. I will add the word comshawing to my lexicon.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean I will remember it.

Think Pappy Boynton and the Black Sheep Squadron. Seems they always were in need of this and that and were ignored so little raids on other units were devised to resupply. Unauthorized of course, that's cumshaw. Spelled it differently to be polite. Mike

The Sgt. Major is not too happy with you right now, BB, as she is not a Barbie Doll.

If I were you, I would lay low for a good while.

You're saying your wife is NOT a Barbie doll? And, you're still breathing?!

Poppa, remember the word and what it means but remember to not cumshaw anything as you can no longer sneak or run like the old days. Mike

Did you and your guys have an expression for liberating others of what you needed. I believe the word was originally used during trial to not admit guilt. Sir, I didn't steal... I cumshawed it. Mike
