Lee was working with Grant during the Mexican American War.He was a decorated hero.
Lee believed slavery was evil and he and his wife broke the law,teaching slaves how to read and write.

After the Civil War he worked with Andrew Jackson's program for reconstruction.The barracks at West Point were named after him .
Robert E. Lee was a man who served his country his entire life.
His statues are now called a blight,and are being torn down.
People are yelling;"You can't change history".but sadly that is being tried.
The rage against Lee,and the removing of his statue is very similar to the Nazi's burning of books.
Isis is trying to rewrite history by destroying historical artifacts.

Lee was torn about the prospect of the South leaving the Union,but he believed that ultimately,states rights trumped the federal government,and chose to lead the Confederate Army.
His estate"Arlington" near Washington DC was his home,and while he was away the Federal Government demanded that he pay his taxes in person.Lee sent his wife to pay the taxes,but she was refused permission to do so.
Since the taxes were unpaid,the Government began burying Union fatalities on his land.
The Government is still burying fatalities there today.
It is now called "Arlington National Cemetery"

Blade Runner, you need to understand that Rylan Wolfe is just looking for another fight in support of his friends on the outrageous left. Bad Bobby summed things up nicely, but he didn't include everything. Space and time limitations. He would need a couple of hundred thousands words of pure fact to sum it all up and Rylan Wolfe would still find something to complain about.

General Robert E. Lee was a great man, before, during, and after the war and should be honored for his service wherever he offered it. Yes, he was against the erecting of statues, but some of the people needed it to honor their sacrifices and those men of the south who gave their lives for states rights and freedom from the tyranny of the north, just as the soldiers of the Revolutionary War deserved monuments for their fight for states rights and freedom from the tyranny of the King of England.

These were honorable men in battle and some were imperfect in life as a civilian. But I have news for you. The north had its share of imperfect Generals like General Grant who also owned slaves, longer then General Lee. I would rather see the statues of politicians torn down after the founding fathers, especially Governors, Mayors, Legislators, etc. whose only value was to gather 51 stupid people to rule with an iron fist over 49 people while they got wealthy.
