In my view the only reason Obama was first elected is that the economy of the US and the whole world was on the edge of total collapse. I don't believe people remember (or perhaps they didn't know) that only the strong and wise actions of the Federal Reserve Bank kept the system from imploding. Watch the HBO film "Too big to fail"; it's very entertaining and informative. Somehow the majority of voters intuitively decided that Obama had the smarts to fix the problem or at least was smarter than the other guy. Do you remember the Federal Reserve extending deposit insurance to every money market fund in the country, trillions of insurance so that millions wouldn't with draw their money and cause a crash beyond comprehension. It was "A Wonderful Life" on a massive scale.

Mostly correct but other significant factors occurred which led to increased confidence in our ability to pull out of the bushie depression. Mainly, the saving of the auto industry which Kasich seems to be trying to lay claim to. It was all Obama and at great risk. The auto industry rebound fueled the recovery. A second feature which still needs rectifying is the stupidity in the military budget. It doesn't go down even when the troops are brought down. A little belt tightening doesn't hurt any organization. Specifically, a total review of the F-35 project and need for VTOL and all Navy stealth projects especially these new destroyers and Huge carriers which are just bigger targets.
