I could care less who President Lincoln admired!

Robert E. Lee was a soldier of the American army when he resigned his commission and took up arms against his country. In the law of this land, that act made him a traitor to his country. So was Jefferson Davis, the proclaimed “President” of the Southern states who also turned on their nation.

As a child in Virginia, I attended elementary schools in the racist Prince Edward County that closed its public schools in defiance of integration in the 1950s and opened an all-white “private” school, supported by county taxpayer dollars” to educate the chosen ones while denying any form of education to those of color. http://www.capitolhillblue.com/node/65883. Cool, I don't recall Dr. King doing anything but trying to end racial discrimination in our country, which by the way was and is unconstitutional. Lee was an American officer that betrayed his oath to defend his country against ALL enemies foreign and domestic. I don't know what your definition of treason is, but Robert E Lee's leadership in the Confederate army certainly violated that oath and gave comfort and aid to just such an enemy. I believe that is the very definition of TREASON!

Robert E Lee was an honorable traitor! Lincoln's most important priority was to have the South reenter the Union. I will say this for Lee, when the war ended, many Southern soldiers wanted to fight a guerrilla war in the hills. Lee would have none of it, and told the soldiers to become good Americans again. That doesn't excuse him from leading an army against his country!! He swore a sacred oath to protect the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, not become one.
I would tear down his statue in Virginia and melt down the metal, and then use the melted metal to build a statue of Martin Luther King.
