SANAA — A man convicted of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl was executed in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Monday in front of hundreds of onlookers, witnesses said.

A policeman fired five bullets from an assault rifle into Muhammad al-Maghrabi, 41, as he lay with his hands handcuffed behind his back on a blanket on the ground in Sanaa’s Tahrir Square, after a judge read out the death sentence.

The execution drew an unusually large number of onlookers — some perched up telegraph poles and many watching from rooftops — because of the young age of Rana al-Matari, the victim.

Security was tight amid fears of a revenge attack on Maghrabi by armed tribesmen related to his victim. The police truck transporting Maghrabi to the square was escorted by five police patrol vehicles.

It' sad they only did this due to her age this should be law no matter how old the victim was.

Totally agree. We need to get rid of political correctness and administer punishments according to the crime. The age matters but doesn't, you rape a child, a woman or a man and it's "proved", bullet to the lower stomach and you die a miserable death while being exposed to the public in order to discourage the practice. But folks if that person was a Christian that little girl I have to tell you the trial would have been different they are brought up from a very young age to hate the west and Christians!!!!

I was just looking at different methods of middle eastern execution....one described in the Talmud is to pour molten lead down the condemned persons throat...but I suspect there would be opposition here in America...in some of the legal circles...

Now he will be living at taxpayer expense for 48 years ---if he survives in prison.
I hope he suffers a terrible death at the hands of cons who do not appreciate criminals like him.
