Merely quoting the Dutchman's own words at him. Strictly socialist in viewpoint that I am according to his polite viewpoint, I just can't help noticing and tactlessly telling him he's off in limbo...or perhaps off in Limbough. He may be nice to lamas but he's a jerk to human beings.

Well, perhaps, but in case you hadn't noticed, The Dutchman was "very" nice to me -- "perhaps" because I turned it down a notch or two. "We" had a civilized, pleasant conversation. I might not agree with his views, but I recognized and validated the fact that he DOES care. You know, it has occurred to me that we ALL care passionately about this country of ours -- it's just that we all have different views, different solutions for "what ails us." "Maybe" we could start with that hypothesis -- we ALL care, and if we ALL care, then reaching across the aisle doesn't seem all that unreasonable or that impossible. Think about it.

Okay, let me take "another" tack (as in sailing). Me thinks that calling someone out ad nauseum makes them numb to everything but their own anger and frustration. You don't think I don't want to ABSOLUTELY SCREAM at some individuals??!!?? OH, but I do. It's just that being angry accomplished very little, "except" that nanosecond of satisfaction from venting, and then what? Just my opinion, anger fuels anger, accomplishing "jack-didly-squat", a big FAT goose egg. It doesn't validate anyone (as in they actually are allowed and should be respected for their opinion, right or wrong), doesn't create solutions...all it does is create MORE animosity, which makes that chasm of divide incrementally larger. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Your opinion is quite worthy, and spot-on, Searching.

It could not have been better said!

This is the one that bothers me the most.

There is no more "we" in this country. There are, for the rabid right, "us" (meaning them) and the "not human beings."

I'm no fan of Obama, but the hatred spewed at the President is without president. Not even Nixon got this much invective.

And the tenuous grasp on reality-the outright lies and far-fetched paranoid fantasies, are beyond the realm of sanity.

And it will go on-it started with Carter and the "malaise" speech he never made. It was ratcheted up with Clinton and his "murdering" of Vince Foster. A vast right-wing conspiracy.

Now it's been perfected with Obama. And it will follow for anybody from the Democrat Party who is elected to the White House. They now know that the power doesn't lie with the majority-an indoctrinated minority can effectively stop government in it's tracks.

Today, a bill in the Senate to extend unemployment benefits was defeated not because it couldn't garner the 50 votes needed for a majority to end debate. The Republican evoked cloture, effectively requiring a super-majority of 60 to end the debate.

One cloture and the filibuster were rare occurrences-only for the vote son final, large scale legislation. But the Senate GOP now requires a super-majority for even the debate and the end of debate-virtually everything.

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell even filibustered his own bill when it looked as though it might pass-something he didn't want. It's the first time since the filibuster was introduced in 1837 that a Senator had filibustered his own bill.

Now we have an obviously disturbed person calling people with whom he disagrees "not human beings." For once, the comparison to the Nazis may be valid.

Why would anyone give you an ounce of respect? You show no respect to those currently in the military ("I was in the military before the military went queer" and admit to telling young people asking about the military "if you aren't queer, don't go there."

The homophobia is revealing, but you have the nerve to ask for respect?

Or the sickest of all "not human beings" It makes me ill to hear you talk about others as immoral.

To get respect, you've got to show respect.

And you show no one respect. You don't even respect the institution that's paying your pension. Wonder how you'd squeal if that was cut off.

Your opinion is worth a lot because you are a reasonable and decent person to lamas, to people, and in political opinions. Dutchman is decent to lamas and Nazi-like to people he disagrees with. His political opinions are plain and simple poisonous insanity. Yes, the Nazis were kind to animals and gutmutlich in person. So were the commies. The unilateral nuclear disarmament people I insisted not march with our civil rights group to JFK's campaign appearance on the UW campus in 1960 were young ladies pushing baby carriages and probably wonderful mothers and no doubt sincerely interested in civil rights but would have reflected badly on civil rights with their signs stating a commie associated extreme position. A year later I informed the national SANE committee that the campus nuclear disarmament organization had been taken over by unilateralists and warned that it would be easy for a few radicals to do that on other campuses and discredit the cause of nuclear disarmament...with result that SANE disbanded all campus chapters--no doubt reluctantly (I'm sure Eleanor Roosevelt was most unhappy to disband) but pragmatically politically necessary.

Yes, it would be nice for me to play nice with jerk Dutch but frankly his rabidness better serves the purpose of showing to his fellow travelers what kind of people and weird thinking they are associating with. It's unpleasant business but such extremism and just plain sicknesses should be challenged as a matter of principle.

The point is that people who make statements like "your immoral perverted obozo like ways" aren't normal, Dutch. They're abnormal and peculiar. I'm just telling you what us normal people think of your type. Get used to it.

By the way I'm married now over 40 years, have 3 children and 7 grandchildren--all decent Christian people. We all live in nice middle class neighborhoods, half in a nice metro community, half in historic small town community. Nice neighbors with normal mainsteam political viewpoints.

Thank you for your kind words. I do understand where you and "Hungry" are coming from -- TRULY. The examples you cited give more than ample reason to guard against extremists. I was just so hoping The Dutchman would extend his umbrella of civility beyond me, guess not, a real pity. I was "hoping" for reasoned discourse. Guess the only constructive thing that I can think of with regard to Extremism -- left or right -- is that it bands together voices of reason even more tightly -- if nothing else making their voices heard more loudly amidst the vitriol of extremists.

Then if I were you, I'd start doing just that - quit lying. Actually I don't think you are "lying". I think you are merely doing as you are told by the democrat leadership. Frankly I don't think you do much independent thinking. Nor do I assume the truthfulness in your bragging, trying to look the intelligent part, and failing. I think the political left is seriously lost and losing faster and faster - and I don't refer to money, financial success, or politics. I refer to your civilization, your integrity, your honesty, your independence, your goodness. I hope you will trust me with this one thing: you would be wise to quit taking for granted the truthfulness of any of the progressive leaders. Half of them are liars and degenerates. The other half are merely along for the ride.
