You sure it was grass and not a dandelion stem? I recall the old locks around me would make dandelion wine, it was dark green and very stout.......i recall it during summer festivals and dances they served it with a dandelion stem in the glass like you speak of. The Wops in the area would also make and drink the same.

I was pretty young, but I recall a buffalo on the label and I remember thinking prairie. It was not homemade. May be memory created by my imagination.

I am neutral on Vodka. Gin has been kinder to my stomach. Rum is really really bad. But to change the subject. As I have aged I have grown to like polkas, which was not true in my younger years. So polkas, Polish or German?

Nah, your memory is probably spot on.........it's those little things that usually ring true when remembering back.

I will have to run with Polish on the polkas, the Germans section in our area also had similar gatherings and festivals.......with that said....once an accordian is introduced, it all kinda blends together

I vote for the poles on the Polka. I grew up listening to WBRE AM and cutting my musical teeth on Stan Wolowitz and His Polka Dukes and Stashu Fandowsky's Polka hour. We danced Polkas, Chardashes, and Mazurkas. We had a lot of Poles in my home town.

I ain't never heard of any of those polka gurus you mention but I lived over 4 years at a college in northern Kansas that was in a German area and loved their polka playing bands. I say German but those people claimed to be Russian during the Second World War and then went back to being Germans while the Cold War was on. Actually they were German descendants of people who moved to Russia way back there and then moved to the US before WW I.

While I was stationed in Germany in the mid-50s I found good old German polkas to fit into Oktoberfest quite well. That was one crazy 2 week celebrations and that Festbier was really something to drink while watching the Germans polka.
