OH yes. And If you are registered and show up without proper ID, then you may fill out a provisional ballot.

Just two questions:

Did you have to show proof of citizenship when you registered to vote?

Did you have to show an ID when you voted?

Thank you for your time.

I live in Illinois so it was no to both.

Pennylynn: If my memory serves me....It is a Federal Law requiring American citizenship to vote in a Federal election! Local civic elections are vague!

In California a driver's license is sufficient. But many undocumented have multiple Driver's Licenses with different variations of their many names, and often different addresses. I asked students in a Hispanic class how many licenses their dad had. The highest number was 17. The student did not know how many times he voted.

In 1954 in Kentucky, no. By the time you needed ID, I had a drivers license. In Virginia, I was asked for my SS card which I did not have but they accepted my passport. I also needed proof of address, and a valid drivers license from another state to get my drivers license. I registered at that time.

Even though we have lived here for 20 years and the people at the voting place know us, we MUST show ID every time we vote. I cannot remember having to proof of citizenship when I first registered to vote but did have to when I first registered in this state. SWMBO says she remembers having to prove citizenship for first vote in Minnesota with her birth certificate.

If Governor Brown gets his way illegal aliens will soon be able to vote in California, so ID will be irrelevant.

Wow I'm glad that wasn't a requirement where I registered, I would have fallen flat on my back
