Believe it or not, whatever the critics thought, I thought 'Private Ryan' was the worst one I saw. I was sick watching it. I don't care for war movies in general, but the reviews were good so I went. Never again. And I'm retired military from the VN era.

I really loved that movie. Not because it was a war movie. I loved it because it showed the tremendous courage of those brave men. They put their lives on the line so a mother could get her only son back again. IMHO it is one of the best movies I ever watched.

I don't knock anyone for liking it; I just didn't. Not my forte. Movies are like cars and clothes, etc. Some people like one kind and not the other, and visa versa. That's what makes the world go 'round.

Okay, not listing the title, the movie was about a pretty college girl,(billed as the ultimate Cinderella story) who sold herself standing on a street corner, (because the money was so good) who ended up finding the man of her dreams.
What did I find wrong-it was an extremely popular movie and the propaganda said to young girls the way to happiness is prostituting yourself, and that if the money is good enough any vile activity is acceptable

I didn't read carefully, the name of the movie is Pretty Woman

I don't go to the movies anymore unless it's from an independent producer. Hollywierd is morally bankrupt. I haven't paid to see a movie for several years. If I can't watch it for free, I don't watch it. There is no way Hollywierd is getting any more money from me. If enough people would follow my example, they would be forced to change. But I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I think the last time I paid for a movie was in Pohang, South Korea in 1999 or so; it was 'Braveheart' and I fell asleep after about ten minutes, just like my Dad used to do. I was in the Navy at the time and had gone through a lot of grueling underway time. I think I might have paid $2 for the ticket and it was a relaxing nap.

I know what you mean. 16 hour workdays were the norm while underway. And if we worked hard and behaved ourselves, we got half a day off Sunday. I also remember the unreps. One time we took on 1200 16" projectiles and 2400 canisters of powder. It was an all hands evolution that lasted three days. I never worked so hard in my life.

Right you are; sixteen hour workdays were a luxury in some cases. Depending on the evolution, it could be way longer than that. I have served on both submarines and minesweepers over the course of 29 1/2 years active duty, and underways were always grueling. When I was on my first minesweeper, I was a First Class Petty Officer (E6) and the Operations Department Leading Petty Officer (LPO) and I was involved in all the trains teams on board, as well as the Integrated Train Team Coordinator; when it came to the final inspection,I was living on caffeine and nicotine and in the final problem phase probably averaged an hour of sleep over a 3-day period. I was never so exhausted in my life. I did eventually make Master Chief (E9), but a lot of hard work and lost sleep went into getting there; it was all worth it and I would do it again a heartbeat. My first year of retirement, 2012, was spent mostly re-adapting to civilian life; it was sometimes difficult, but I am now enjoying my retirement in Nashville, TN. It feels good not to have to pick up and move every 2-4 years.

Talk about grueling. I had a friend who worked in propulsion. I'm sure you've had a chance to visit the boiler rooms. They work the hell out of those poor pukes in conditions that I would not want to encounter for even ten minutes. It was so hot in there, and he spent so long there, he wore his Pea Coat in Hawaii during the Summer. He said he was cold. No joke.
