The fundamental difference between a Republic and a Democracy is this; Democracies are ruled by voters' whims; Republics are ruled by laws. The fact that both have voters is only coincidental. They function very differently.

Not entirely. But if you want to go that route, then that is the fatal flaw in a Republic.

But back to basics, you can call America a republic, though I have yet to find a suitable definition of that concept that is not vague, but the founders had in mind a "representative" (chosen by voters) democracy, wherein the electorate vote for the men who make the laws, they do not themselves vote on the laws. And ignorance, again, is the fatal flaw.

People like turd and others, will fall for whatever the Al Sharptons of the world want them to know. The fatal flaw.

The last thing on Earth that the Founders had in mind was anything even vaguely resembling a democracy. It has been known since mankind first considered such things that democracies invariably form the last step before dictatorship. The reason for the unrest in the USA today is the unfortunate slide toward democracy we've been on for the last 60 years.
