I believe in forgiveness, it is the only way to move forward. I do not think either way about this church group. Some may be still processing what happened and learning to deal with their loss and only "going along to get along." While others may have discovered the truth about forgiveness, that being able to accept that an event happened; either good or bad and they have learned to deal with their emotions and understand that forgiveness has nothing to do with the individual, but rather the event. There was an interesting article in Psychology Today and one quote stands out: "Forgiveness is not saying you accept the person who wronged you. Instead, forgiveness is choosing to accept what happened as it happened rather than what could or should have happened." Often people confuse this, they think that forgiving a person somehow is a surrender and total acceptance of the individual who committed cruel acts, as in the case of Root (a very hateful individual). This is both unhealthy and does not allow individuals to heal or move into the "present." Forgiveness is only an acceptance that an act happened and can not be changed. No amount of hate or stomping of the feet will change the past. As for feeding Root, would you somehow experienced pleasure from his hunger? Would starving him change the events?
