"Thus, America, above all countries, was born in an explicitly libertarian revolution, a revolution against empire; against taxation, trade monopoly, and regulation; and against militarism and executive power. The revolution resulted in governments unprecedented in restrictions placed on their power." - Murray Rothbard, from his book, 'For a New Liberty'.
240 years later, we have empire (over 800 US military bases worldwide), taxation (IRS, anyone?), trade monopoly (just try starting a business from scratch), regulation (over $1 trillion a year in added compliance costs), militarism (military-industrial complex going strong) and executive power grabs by the boatload ("I have a pen and a phone, I don't need Congress").
The founders would be so proud of what their posterity has done with what their 'very lives and sacred honor' instituted.
