Was visited by husband and wife with two children 10&12. After coming in from outside. First thing was flopping on the sofa with mama and the second thing was placing shoes on the sofa. Not a word was said. This went on for a couple hours first on one sofa then to make sure the outside dirt was spread evenly, the other sofa was also utilized in the same manner. Again, not a word until I picked up the kid's foot and dropped it to the floor while telling her to keep her feet off the furniture. I got a glare but it worked.
Is this common behavior these days? Or just lack of attention by parents, disregard for other people's property, or what?

I remember visiting family friends when I was a kid, and we were told how to act properly before we got there. Today's kids are not taught right from wrong at home as a rule. Frustrating.

Unfortunately all too common. Glad you told the kid what to do. To many won't.

They have had eight long years of watching the last POS POTUS do that to the peoples furniture in the white house, what do you expect?

Kids need properly administered punishment from their parents for this kind of wanton disrespect for others' property, etc. It seems that corporal punishment is also needed by some of the parents, too. This kind of crap is all too common today.

Parents are not parents as you and I knew they let the kids dictate. Since the goverment stuck their foot in the door stating how you raise your kids even school tells kids they can have mom and dad arrested by yelling abuse. Some one I worked with use to take her phone out of the house when she went to work because her to daughters ran a $750 phone bill up. They called defacts said she was MEAN they showed up told her they were going to investigate her for abuse.She told them to sit down with the girls she had something in the other room to do she would be right back.She came out with 2 suit cases handed them to the people and told them to take them of course the girls fell apart the defac people got upset but she told if I cannt raise them without you looking over my shoulder you do it she was tired of them and the school telling her kids how to get what they want

They took them their dad came and got them he lived some where out west she called him and told him what happened they decided he could control them more then she could. Bet they didnt call defac's again

I don't know why this is, but I take better care of that which belongs to another than I do my own crap!!!

It's how you were taught. It's called respect.

A whole lot of our.problems would disappear if we all paid each other respect.

now days kids will tell you they deserve to be respected when older generations were brought up we were taught you earn it

Absolutely.

Nowadays they say "respect me because I deserve it".

We proved it before the fact.

An example is Prog1 here. He says respect me because of who I say I am.

I say he acts like trash because he is.
