John 6

Verses 1 - 14

The feeding of the 5,000 is the only miracle in all four gospels. This makes it the most important miracle Jesus accomplished. We should pay particular attention to it. We should also note that Jesus did not feed the multitude. After breaking the bread and praying, He gives the pieces to the disciples and the disciples feed the multitude. We should follow Christ before leading others to Him. We should not leave Christ out of the equation. Today we think we have a relationship with Christ while ignoring every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed.

Verses 15 - 21

Jesus doesn’t and did not care about being worshipped or adored by those who only glory in flesh. The word should be explained by Christ’s disciples. You can’t lead anyone to Christ unless you have followed Him. Jesus wants to avoid those who want to glory in flesh, and teach true disciples that He actually walked on water.

Verses 22 - 27

Christ is clearly unimpressed with these people. They want another free meal. In spite of their evil motives and short-sighted thinking, Jesus still wants them to think about something besides their fleshly desires. God appeals to intellect.

Verses 28 & 29

The only work of God they are interested in will go in their stomachs. That must have been some good fish. The true bread of life is before them, but they are only interested in their stomachs. All we have to do is depend on Jesus. We practice a religion that ignores every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed. Read Luke 6:46 and John 14:15. If Jesus is Lord, then do what He says.

Verses 30 & 31

Sign? He just fed a multitude with a meal meant for a small boy. They really want another free meal. They learned nothing from what Christ did. God taught a lesson in every sermon Christ preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed.

Verses 32 & 33

Moses had nothing involved with the manna God sent to feed His children. But like food strengthens your flesh. If you read the word of God, and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart, you will make decisions that sustain life.

Verses 34 - 40

They still want free food. They can’t establish a correlation between food sustaining the body and making good choices inspired by God’s word affecting your entire life. Never hungering or thirsting means never being confused. You know what to do in every situation. While making decisions that please God may seem impossible at first, because you don’t make emotional decisions and actually think before you speak or act, you will have a better life.

Verses 41 - 51

Eating Christ’s flesh and drinking His blood is reading the old and new testaments. His blood is the new testament. His flesh is the old. Read the word of God, let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart, and make decisions with the goal of pleasing God or at the very least avoid His disfavor. God gives wisdom. God appeals to intellect, while satan appeals to emotion. Those who make emotional decisions will not listen to the wisdom taught in God’s word. They will lead unfulfilling lives as they go from disaster to disaster as they choose their own destruction. This can be changed by making better decisions.

Verses 52 - 59

Christ says we must eat His flesh and drink His blood. What is he talking about, cannibalism? Of course not. Christ died for all mankind throughout all generations. He were speaking His physical body, there would not be enough for the whole planet, not to mention that about 200 generations have passed since. You are what you eat. Eating is food for the body but reading the bible feeds your soul and spirit. You have to feed both. We enjoy a good meal but accept spiritual nonsense. We should read what Jesus said Matthew 7:15 - 20 and 2 Timothy 4:3 & 4.

Verses 60 - 68

The flesh profits nothing. After all of your failures and successes, downsitings and uprisings, and all your experiences, you can add a big “so what”. Worship and praise is useless without obedience. We all go thru the same thing. We all come into this world as children, grow up and have children of our own, grow old and die. None of us are divinities. No one knows everything. Unless God draws you, you will not come to Christ. If you hate Christ, God hasn’t called you. If God hasn’t called you, the word of God will make no sense.

Verses 69 - 71

Christ does not force Himself on anybody. Christ true disciples are more concerned with what they can give instead of what they can get.
