Love this analogy. Have seen it many times. Simple and to the point. Probably not simple or pointy enough for niki.

I, too, have seen this a number of times, and am glad to re-read it each time. This time I actually sent it on to a few people, and emailed it to myself for future reference. thank you so much for posting it!!

The difference between the incomes of half of Americans and the top 1% is, a factor of 1000%. Sure, the handful of people at the top pay a combined tax which comprises nearly 25% of total tax revenues, but that is vastly non proportional. It isn't a question of how much tax you pay, it's question of how much you pay on every dollar earned - which tells you how much you have left to live on.

A person making $50,000 gross, will pay an average of 22% effective tax, leaving them with $39,000 to live on. A person making $100,000,000 gross, will pay an effective tax rate of 11%, leaving them with $89,000,000 to live on. So, tell me; should our hearts bleed for someone with $89,000,000 to try and makes ends meet with? Bear in mind, 2/3 of the tax code, is comprised of special interest tax deductions, exemptions and credits, that only apply to the top 10%.

The uber rich spend a lot of money to get and keep those special tax breaks, money they should be paying AS taxes.

I agree 100%. I like the "fair tax" plan.

Why should they pay more taxes? They already pay more than their fair share. The top 1% income tax payers pay 24% of all income taxes. The top 20% pay 85% of all income taxes, and the bottom 45% pay zero![/quot

I believe everyone should pay taxes, even if it's $5. That way everyone contributes and has skin in the game.
They even more afraid to say the government should spend less and people should stand on their own damn feet.

The tax rate is what the tax rate is. Look it up in the tax tables. Simply the code, reduce taxes and limit deductions. I believe that's what Trump would like to do and what every Establishment politician in Washington, not to mention the bureaucracy, desperately want to keep from happening.

You are far too non educated to even begin to understand how a successful person makes money. All you know is how to manipulate the welfare systems.

As to making mention of those that work...you should not touch that topic. Stick to discussing your welfare stamps and what is on sale at your local discount food mart. Idiot.

That is really a brilliant statement. First, I don't believe we have too many billionaires making that kind of money, secondly, those making 100,000 a year or more are working more than 40 hours a week because they WANT more of a better life! What do you really know about making money?? Are you another of the "freebee" riders we have? If welfare stopped tomorrow, we may have a few get hungry for a while, but I bet they will find a way to get some food. If you want more than just "exist" get an education, learn a new skill, get a second job, I've done all of these and more. Yes, I live very well, but I EARNED it. When I was young, I hoed cotton for $1.00 a day, my last job paid me $125,000/year. My son, earns more than $260,000/year but he works over 80 to 100 hours per week and he has an education. Try it, it works wonders!!

Envy based politics has a shaky foundation.
